    Donie Forde passes away

I saw over the weekend that Donie Forde, who the main stand at the Cross is named after, passed away over the weekend.

My Dad knew him and he(Donie Forde) was involved in Cork teams going back to the fifties and the Raich Carter era.

    Later was involved in MFA.

im sure he was proud to see the fine stand at the cross baring his name, and Munster football on the up.

Donie who had been ill for the past 5/6 years done an immense amount of work for Cork football at all levels. He was involved in football on the administrative side all his life. He was very proud to have the main stand at the Cross named after him. Fair play to the MFA for naming the stand after him whilst he was alive to appreciate it.

He was secretary to the MFA for ages, at a time when everything was written by hand, when there was no photocopying, and no paid administrators. Well regarded by his contemporaries. Proper tribute to him that the stand was named after him.

I remember Deccie and some of the other players came into see Donie in the Mercy with the Cup in '98. The club haven't always done the decent thing, but the way they showed respect for what Donie contributed over the years is a credit to all involved. I know what the best tribute this week would be...

That is a good idea ... i would be a nice touch, what should it say ??
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

The banner is a great idea - what's the best way to go about it?

A roll of white wallpaper and a tin of black paint and away you go.
In this weather you'd need an indoor place too!
