Task manager in Windows ME

Task manager in Windows ME .... there isn't one .... does anyone know of a good one that i can download. It is just to kill processes !!

Got to, Start, Run and type CMD
Hit OK
At the command prompt C:\ type tlist
This will list all tasks running on your machine.
Lets say you want to terminate Solitaire.
Type kill sol.exe
If you're running Windows XP, replace Kill with TaskKill

That will be GBP£160 + VAT please.

On another related subject...I downloaded the google toolbar for quicksearch and to block pop-ups and its fine, but sometimes it disappears and gets replaced with another crapy one that I know nothing about....any advice??

Uninstall it!
Also, don't use Google Desktop Search on shared PC's.
Amongst other things, it allows for "secure" Internet mail to be recalled even after you've logged off.
Google describe this as a "feature" not a problem.

Don't mind Peadar, there's no need to uninstall it. What you should be uninstalling is Windows Me.

JoeSoap hasn't said he's running Windows ME.
I do agree though, it's about time to ditch it.
Essentially it's Windows 98 with Millennium updates.
XP Home Edition isn't bad if you want to stick to the Windows platforms.

For JoeSoap though, if the Google toolbar is being hijacked, he's better off without it.

Fair enough, I thought it was a followup to the thread starter. However the Google Toolbar isn't being hijacked, his browser is. Uninstalling the Google Toolbar won't make any difference, he simply needs to tighten up the security on his browser. If he's using IE6, even resetting it to the defaults is better than nothing, as long as he doesn't approve any installation dialog boxes.

I find Google Desktop Search excellent btw. Outlook search in particular has always been rubbish for IMAP, so it's a boon for that. Your advice about shared machines is accurate of course, but the tendency of others to jump up and down screaming about it like little girls is pathetic.

whats it do lads ??
Is looks after groupings of services/processes we're told ... but how can i see what it is doing ??

Anyway ... does anyone know of a good task manager, other than anything from Windows ?

If you can't run tlist then you don't have it installed.
Do you have the Resource Kit?
It should have come with the original software.
The Windows 98 Resource kit would work too if you could get a copy of that. The tools and utilities are located on the disc labeled Client Utilities in the \PS\win98\reskit directory.

If the "Program Manager" in Me under CTRL+ALT+DEL isn't good enough, why don't you just Google for a third-party Task Manager? It's not as if there isn't a thousand of them out there.

I think the idea is that we'll tell him which one to download.
Still think he needs a new OS anyway.

Could be.
I just had a freebie CD knocking about the place for a while.
Don't offer it as a solution to customers so wouldn't be up to speed on the RTM dates.

You can download the 1.3GB Evaluation Version here.
Burn it to a DVD and you can run it from there.
There's no installation, it runs completely from the DVD.
I'm sure if you check out some Linux mags you'll get a free eval. DVD with them.

He doesn't have the disk .... thought in might have gone on with the install, just couldn't see it (heard that is the case with different versions)
