Lenihan (27) has not yet renewed his contract with Blackburn Rovers, which expires next summer. So Rovers are watching John Souttar (Hearts) as a potential replacement. (Football League World, 30 Nov.)
He's started for them steadily up to the end of last season at least, per wikipedia, so he may think he can do better. At 27, with loads of Championship experience, available on a free, could he tempt a lower half Premiership club?
You can't spell failure without FAI
Lenihan included in the Whoscored.com Championship Team of the Season for 21/22.
"Middlesbrough are reportedly on the verge of signing ....Darragh Lenihan on a four-year deal". (Teeside Live, 9 June). Boro' have let defenders Sol Bamba and Lee Peltier go, so the club are looking for a replacement. However, Boro' have not replied to the Teeside Gazette's requst for a comment. Meanwhile Blackburn Rovers say they are in contract talks with Lenihan, but that as he is over 24, he is entitled to talk to other clubs.
Suffered a foot injury at the beginning of the month, won't be back for a while yet (Northern Echo)
Goal for Lenihan - equalizer against Wednesday.
Darragh Lenihan (Middlesbrough) left footed shot from the centre of the box to the high centre of the goal following a corner.
A long time since the last post on this thread. Lenihan's injury woes continue. He had surgery on his ankle over 12 months ago, which ended the rest of the 2023/4 season for him. His ankle issues led to an Achilles problem. He scored in a pre-season game for Middlesbrough but has been undergoing treatment since then, with boss Michael Carrick predicting that Lenihan won't return to action until after Christmas and that "there's no kind of target or deadline right now because he's been out so long". (The Northern Echo, 5 December).
The forgotten man of Irish centre backs, but there's still a small chance he could find himself in the Premier League next season.

MICHAEL Carrick was thrilled for Darragh Lenihan after the defender returned to the Middlesbrough bench following his 18-month injury nightmare - but the Irishman is likely to have to wait until pre-season to get back on the pitch.
