    I see you are missing a few of the games involving Harps;
    Sligo (a) July : 650 (250-300 Harps fans)
    Kilkenny (a) March : 80 (15 Harps fans)
    Kilkenny (a) 18 Sept : 109 (40 Harps fans)
    Keep up the good work.

    Are they average attendences Stu? Is the whole Premier League down about 20% or is it mainly because of matches you couldn't add in? If so why are attendences actually dropping?

    Attendances are down for some teams definitely, but I think some of it has to do with the fact that I'm trying to keep attendances conservative and will always pick the lowest reasonable attendance for any one game (e.g. Shels-Pat's from Dr Nightdub is in at 1,000). I didn't do this last year, and a different way of recording attendances may have been used. Next season will tell if this is the case.

    Interesting that the only club to have provided official attendances this year and last is Bohs, who are down 60 or so. That may be more realistic. However, whether this year is too low or last year is too high, I don't know.

    Right, so the previous years' figures were also put together by you, so they're not the most accurate either? Bohs apart I mean. Why don't clubs publish official figures? Is that not a UEFA directive?

    Also where do you get UCD's from? And what does that 50% slash really mean? Is it mainly due to the absence of away support especially Dublin? How has the actual UCD support been affected by relegation?

    The clubs have to send the exact figures to the FAI but they don't have to publish them unfortunately. I've no idea why they don't.

    I think it was TommyT who put the thread together - it'll be still there if you want to trawl through the forum. He may have given more leeway in which of two attendances to take. Also, the Star had more input last year - enough said! It is part of UEFA Licencing to issue attendances, but I (and others) e-mailed them and they said that there were no plans to release the attendances. I got the impression that clubs simply weren't complying.

    UCD's attendances are by means of that good old-fashioned method - counting them... The drop is mainly - almost exclusively, in fact - a lack of away support. I'd say the home support is up slightly. In the 2001/02 season, we had three home games in front of 100 people - our worst this season was 50% (or 50 people...!) up on that, with the drawbacks of the game not being on our usual day (the Cobh game was on the Sunday), a Bank Holiday, the press giving details wrong and Dublin playing in Croke Park against Roscommon. So it's slow, but seems to be improving. In fact, they were getting notably better until Mr Doolin lost nine games in a row (but didn't relegate us...!)

    Hard to tell obviously but if you consider that 44% home games last year were against the other Dublin teams and take an average of 1000 for those, adding that to this year's figures would give an average of 618, not too far off last year's figure. This is before you think about the extra number of away fans the other premier clubs would bring compared to the likes of (and no disrespect intended here!) Kilkenny, Monaghan, Limerick, Cobh, etc. Including that drop, probably not far off 100 a game, there isn't a huge difference between this year's and last year's numbers.

    Actually it's worth factoring something else in. UCD got a very rough deal with the fixture list this year. Our three title/promotion rivals Finn Harps, Bray Wanderers and Kildare County were all handed the advanatge of playing twice at home against us and only once away. This advantage was also extended to Dundalk meaning we only had home advantage twice against one top half side that being Galway United. Now given the proximity of those clubs (barring Harps) and the chances of those clubs doing anything meaningful this year (barring Dundalk) this means we were denied a bit more of an away support and has given us a much harder road to promotion. Perhaps if it was the other way around more away fans and indeed home fans may have come this year. And we may been top at the moment!

    Don't forget though that the current figures include one home game against each team (Athlone apart) and so are probably a fairer comparison to last year's.
