Friendlies count for very little in terms of accumulating ranking points. Scotland's rise is mainly down to recent good results in competitive fixtures.

I have seen repeatedly that a player has somebody open next to him and he plays the direct ball up front for an Irish skull and Turkish skull to do battle over.
And nearly all the goal kicks are long.
