Surely if it was to be in Oriel the away fans would have to be put somewhere other than the actual away end.

    That is from Wikipedia

Our chairman has stated before the Europa game that there are 3200 seats, so No way is the capacity only 4500

Well considering who it is maybe put them in a cage behind the goals?

    Yes, 3200 seated.

The standing capacity is hard to estimate. The Carrick Road end is big but not terraced. It would be difficult to put people there as the view would be very restricted.

Would it be economic to hire temporary seating? That could accommodate up to 2,000 but would be pricey.

The second leg of the 1998/99 League Cup Final was also at the Cross, was also against Shamrock Rovers, and was also 1-0. Noel Hartigans finest moment.

Wikipedia also tells me that Shamrock Rovers were defeated by Athlone in 81/82 and Dundalk in 86/87 though it neglects to give Venues for either game.

They have lost 6 LC finals! Dundalk are second both in terms of Wins and Losses with 4 a piece.

82 was in Tolka and 87 in Dalymount, the same venue as that year's cup final between the two teams.

So the final has been confirmed for Oriel then. I'm surprised but delighted.

Times they are a changing - kudos to the FAI, who seem to have belatedly got a grasp on sporting fairness in opting for a coin toss.

Aye, that's what wiki has but there hasn't been a confirmed definitive figure seating wise since the ground got upgraded for the EL under Foster (bar what Skinny comes out with and I'd take that with a pinch of salt tbf). Before this years EL wear and tear/ replacements over the last few years etc hadn't been factored in, hence me saying around 3k seating & not a specific figure.

The ground capacity total is what I was given last year from the club as I do some of the LOI research for Football Manager & ourselves in particular & it was the same as the post EL Foster era ground upgrades with the old seats from Croker that got put in. The total is the registered figure with UEFA/ the FAI/ Health & Safety etc for a safe maximum capacity. Not a chance seating/ standing totals 6k since the seats were put in the Shed, away and home end terraces.

Someone in the FAI messed up the coin toss. There will be hell to pay.

Wil Fenlon allow players to deicde whether they fancy playing on Dundalk's 3G pitch?

They used the same one sided coin as always. Shams just called wrong.

Looking forward to a cup final in a venue where away fans can't see half the pitch and the top notch facilities.

Great craic coming out of Louth this afternoon. Dundalk have proposed building a temporary uncovered stand for the Rovers fans to sit in at Oriel. In exchange for this most generous bounty, Rovers will pay 1/3 of the cost of the temporary stand (which Dundalk will be free to use for their remaining home games) and get a whopping 1/4 of the ticket allocation. They apparently have the FAI backing them in this ludicrous suggestion.
