The printed story actually says that Staunton is believed to have expressed an interest but wasn't offered the job. That's very different to him being approached and turning it down.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

I think you will find that 500 top flight games in England, 102 International games and 6 major honours might have given him a small bit of a qualification.
Why are people who "need no introduction" always introduced?

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware he was signing as a player rather than a manager.

Being a player and a manager are two different, albeit overlapping, skill sets. All of his experience in the game would make him a better manager than, say, me, but it doesn't mean he has all the skills necessary to succeed as a coach.

Derry were brutal from the get go. Rarely looked like a team, only 11 individuals. Worked hard at times, difference with second part of season was used all the luck haven't had previous 5 or so years in first half of season.

Roddy could do something. Or he could be out by start of world cup

No need to be sorry and certainly no need to be smart. Doesnt suit you and if what im hearing is correct you will have enough to worry about in your own club when the new manager is appointed.

Hilarious. The usual 'I know but can't tell you' bull. If indeed this is the case why bring it up?

According to Galway Bay FM, Tommy Dunne is the front runner for the Galway FC job, with Johnny Glynn the other candidate named as being in contention as well

Jesus, surely Johnny Glynn should be the immediate choice after the miracle he worked with Mervue. The fittest team in the Division last season as well as the hardest to break down.

The "miracle" he performed with Mervue?

    Behave.

If Johnny Glynn is in the running surely he is the perfect choice. Did very well with Mervue, seems to have good connections around the league, has a good knowledge of local football in Galway and probably has a better insight into everything going on in Galway with regards Salthill, GUST, Mervue over the last number of years than a candidate from outside.

For some unearthly reason there is an attitude of anyone but Glynn among some in Galway. Can't understand it myself and choosing Tommy Dunne over Glynn to me is a strange one. Hopefully the tide turns in Glynns favour.

As for "miracle" at Mervue. I'd agree with that. League championship form in the final series of games to reach the playoff and done on less than a shoestring.

Anyone who brushes off the job Glynn done at Mervue needs their head examined. 19 out of 20 First Division fans will say Mervue were the toughest team to break down last season. They made Fahy's Field into a very tough place to go and everyone dreaded the trip there. As galwayhoop said, this was all done on next to no budget. Should be an absolute no-brainer to appoint him.

In fairness, last season, Finn Harps must have dreaded a trip anywhere.
