    What a win!
We played some great football, especially in the second half.
I thought Doyler and Benno were fantastic. Kearney was also impressive as were Hoggie and Greg.
Georgie and Gamble did well in midfield and Flynny seemed to have more confidence than he has had in recent times.
And not wanting to leave anyone out, Mick, Dan and Billy also did well. It was a great team performance in the face of Waterford's thuggery.
I think we've got to find some way of accomadating both Greg and Danny Murphy in the team as neither deserves to be left on the bench.

As for the support, I know we always have good support in Waterford but I think last night was the best yet. Waterford made sure not to oversell the stand this time and it was a pity that the fans had to be split up but in a way I think it probably helped the players having a large vocal support in the stand and behind the goal. The atmosphere was great, the chants, the smoke, the drums and everything else all added to the occasion and showed up how pathetic Waterford's "support" is!

As for Reynolds, he really is a stupid cnut. Firstly, when City had a corner in the second half he was mouthing off to the fans behind the goal, then he goes and needlessly gets himself sent off and then he tops it all off by sticking his fingers up at the City fans on his way off the pitch.
Dan Connor was also engaging in his usual thuggery but thats to be expected at this stage.
    Champions!

Shel's run in is easy enough.

The only tough game they have is against us, which is at Tolka park.

    You'd really expect them to beat the rest easy enough;

    Dublin City "Away"

    City Home

    Longford Away

    Waterford Home

    Pats Away

Where as we have difficult trips to Derry and Drogheda
    Oh no not them again

You got that one right. What a force to have in the side. We must appreciate what we've got while we still have them. We will look back on nights like this, and talk about their legendary performances. It is a privelege to be a witness when they play like they did last night.

Devine :6/10 Couldn't do anything about the goal and had one or two dodgy moments, but generally very good.

Greg: 8/10 A few dodgy moments as well, early on in the first half, but was superb from then on. Murphy might be a better left back, but somtimes quality isn't everything. back to stay.

Dan: 7/10 a couple of poor clearances aside, he had a decent game.made some important interceptions.

Benno: 9/10 Will captain city some day. what a star, and he seems to like playing that shower too

Hoggie: 7/10 consistent as ever. very effective.

Billy: 6/10 brilliant at times, poor at times. We need to look for a more consistent player for the right wing

Gamble: 9/10 would have been man of the match for the 2nd time in a week but for kearney. He's got exactly what we need in centre-mid, steel, strength and quality.
George: 9/10 rolled up his sleevs, and fought, but still had time for a bit of show-boating near the end, just to rub it in.
Kearney: 9/10 always had the talent, now he's showing strength and intelligence on the ball as well. really turning on the style at the moment.

Doyler: 10/10 there isn't a better player in the league. are you watching brian kerr. thanks Pats

O'Flynn: 8/10 confidence is back, form improving. hopefully the old flynny is back to stay.

Fcuking still can't believe the result, brilliant night overall.Sick as a small hospital this morning but it was definately worth it.Behind the goals for all the city goals and I had to keep looking at the linesman and the ref to make sure they were allowing them.

We we're awsome in the second half and practically lived in their half although we didn't create loads of clear cut chances the ones we did we stuck away and that cnut Connor had to go into his net four times to get the ball.Loved it.

Nice one Carey for the first goal,we know you're heart is still with city.

And Mr reynolds,ya fcukin dirty piece of sh!t,you really made our night by just being yourself and kissing the waterford crest, what a joke. :The pr!ck should definately be suspened for more games for his stupid gestures at the end of the game after being sent off.

I must say I was looking at the table this morning and thinking it could be done but it is a vey long shot in my opinion. We need to win every game we play for the rest of season to do it i'd say and shels need to drop points somewhere else along the line as well but you never know.

It would be the greatest come back of all time in a title race if we did it i'd say.Roll on our next game know and lets keep the momentum going.

    Irish Football Online

    Waterford United 1-4 Cork City
    Alan Carey 18 (o.g.)
    Willie Bruton 42
    Kevin Doyle 48
    Alan Bennett 61
    John O'Flynn 78

Bad night for old-boys as City win at RSC
It was a night to forget for a couple of former Cork City players as the Rebels ran out 4-1 winners in Waterford tonight.
Former player, Alan Carey put Cork ahead in the 18th minute with an own goal. The defender rolling a backpass past goalkeeper Dan Connor as the Blues gifted the lead to City. It was level at the break though as Willie Bruton scored before half time after John Frost had chipped the ball over the City defence and left Bruton one-on-one with goalkeeper Mick Devine.
Kevin Doyle reinstated Cork's lead just four minutes after half time. George O'Callaghan had headed Liam Kearney's corner kick into his path and Doyle made no mistake.
Alan Bennett's goal on the hour put City 3-1 up after a perfect pass from O'Callaghan. John O'Flynn made it a rout with a fourth on 78 minutes as he drilled the ball home after Connor had parried Doyle's initial effort.
Waterford's player-manager Alan Reynolds, also a former Cork player, was sent off in injury time after an off the ball clash with Denis Behan.

Waterford United : Connor, Coleman, Frost (Waters 81), Breen, Whelehan, Carey (Sullivan 67), Reynolds, Mulcahy, Murphy, Bruton, Clifford (Quitongo 67).
Cork City : Devine, Bennett, O'Halloran, Murray, Horgan, Woods, Gamble, Kearney, O'Callaghan, Doyle, J O'Flynn (Behan 88).

He went to Kilcohan Park. That is a greyhound track! I heard he backed no.6 at the 8.10 race. Lucky him, it came in at 7-1

Fantastic result last night..i thought the whole team played very well..i think Gamble is making a big difference to our team..he is winning lots of ball, breaking up play and supplying easy passes to teamates..even though Colin is having a great season Gamble is a better central midfielder and its showing..Kearney was absolutely outstanding last night..Waterford had no answer to him..Flynny looked good last night also and what can you say about Doyler?..brilliant..Carey showed the form last night why City released him..very poor up against good players that run at him..the support City had was fantastic..as always well done to Eric and Eanna on drums for getting the atmosphere going...i always thought we could get 2nd and now with recent results its amazing to think we have an outside chance of winning the league..Turners Cross should be buzzing Friday night..

Also..I am glad for Pat Dolan who has come through the recent criticism and made changes for the best of the team..he is a strong character and deserves praise..how on earth people were calling for his head is beyond me..anyway from what i could see back then and from what i can see now he is building by far the best team we ever had at this club...

    Next year :Champions league/UEFA Cup(hopefully)
:New Cup involving teams North and South..
    :City of Culture Cup..

...so much to look forward to..we must finish at least 2nd...why would any of our players want to go to England when they have all this to look forward to...
