The problem with such polls is that most people have only seen very
recent players play a lot, you don't have to go very far back in time
to when basically you had MOTD (In the UK anyway) and thats your
lot.
Nowadays you get to see a lot more football on TV either at home
or down the pub if you don't have sky.
Might be different in Ireland but I have seen virtually nothing of some
of the older (or not so old) players listed.
Works both ways though as you get to see players not so good games
whereas in highlights of older players they will generally be shown at their
best.
However in terms of winning things surely Roy Keane should come
out on top? He also broke the English transfer record transfer fee.
Those kind of things are not subjective.
Also why was Ian Harte not on the list?
Or Kevin Kilbane for that matter?

How anyone can argue with Terry Phelan's contribution to the Irish set up is beyond me. Same goes for Mick Milligan, Liam O' Brien, Alan Kernaghan, Liam Daish, Eddie McGoldrick, Keith Branagan, Curtis Fleming, Alan Moore, Owen Coyle, Paul Butler and all the other realtai (Irish galacticos) we have had down through the years. Paul McGrath, Roy Keane, Chippy Brady ******. Forget it.

Paul Mc Grath for me, He played in 3 major championships, in midfield and defence. He was player of the tournament in 1990, and had an absolute cracker of a game against Italy when playing with a broken arm I think. He was an absolute legend for Ireland and I would vote him the best player that I have seen play for Ireland.
