But who is Rob Brennan and his London-provenance is irrelevant. I agree with what you say about Keane being badgered but I think that most of us on here are siding with Keane v the press. Some of the stuff that as said to MON yesterday was unreal. I honestly believe Keane was right to say everything he said.

So you believe he is right what he said about Martinez, McCarthy and Everton?

Personally I would take Kenes honesty over O'Neills conditional subtlety every day of the week when it comes to what's really going on.

What opinion did he even state though? What he said was pretty innocuous as far as I can recall, that knowing Jack's father a decision won't be quick.

There's no point in sugar coating the JG situation. If Keane wants to comment on it in such mild terms then it's no big deal. If he was to say that it's a disgrace that he can't commit or an act of treachery to walk out on Ireland having played for them for years then that would be ill advised, for sure, but not what (I think) he said.

    I think there's a place for both.

I am not on about place hence the use of the words to descibe O'Neill. I think keane would give a more honest insight into what's going on, but with obviously his own agenda somewhat.

O'Neill would be far more measured and less definitive wrt to being political and astute for the sake of steadying the ship and keeping it from rocky waters.

I thought Keane was just being sarcastic about the Everton players and miracles. Keane's sarcasm is his humour, not to be taken too literally.

Then again I'm not Kenright, who blew his 1amp indignation fuse in defence of the club and his Saint Roberto, who apparently partakes in holy communion 3 times daily.

Brennan is a journalist/writer with the Irish Post.

What further light did Roy's "honesty" shed on the situation exactly?

I wasnt overly concerned about O'Neill bringing in mainly the same faces with the addition of christie and mcgoldrick the last day, he seemed very impressed with what he had seen of christie before bringing him in. I think O'Neill has been justified with his squad here, and the questions about new faces have been answered, as he said thats what they have been trying to do, to add quality to the squad. He has done that by the looks of it without giving younger lads a chance who may not add the quality he refers to immediately.

I sometimes think a leftfield selection like this for a competitive game could work wonders, its a bit high risk though, but then you have the regulars coming in when the opposition are tired and wanting to prove themselves, as Shane Long and McGeady did yesterday and you also get the newbies playing without any fear. I think the usa tired yesterday and perhaps these players hadnt full match sharpness/fitness playing in their respective leagues but we finished very strong when the more experienced players came on.

Rhetorical Danny. It's clear from the tweet. I was querying why I should care what the likes of him or say Ger Keville or say Paul O'Shea have to say.

But there are so many views out there from more reliable and well-versed sources that I find it odd that TOWK singled out Rob Brennan as someone with an alternative viewpoint.

Listened to Second Captain's podcast. Ken Early said the comment about Grealish's dad was very off the cuff and said in a jokey way.
He said the journos were all very surprised at Keane losing the rag the way he did though later on

So the way it happened is that they were 2 different incidents according to Ken and that his outburst was not to do with Grealish at all.

The transcribed outburst didn't involve Grealish, it was just on getting asked if he/his actions were a "distraction". That's when he lost the rag.

I thought Brennan's perspective, and skepticism, was interesting considering he is a member of the diaspora.

And I'm not the first person to post a link to one of his tweets so I'm not sure why there is consternation now.

Sorry. Yes duh. I didn't really connect the whole thing in my head I'm shattered.

Yes we are all foaming at the mouth with apoplexy.

I criticised the tweet as it really adds nothing in my opinion.

I'm pretty exasperated with the JG situation but that's it. Just fed up with it constantly distracting us like I was with McCarthy back in the day. Rob Brennan's position merely reflects that a good lot think. That he is a member of the diaspora is irrelevant and he has no extra right to comment on the situation.

I don't recall his tweets popping up before. Not that that's important.

His opinion adds nothing, much like Grealish would add nothing to the team at this present moment in time. So why do journalists keep bringing him up in press conferences?

They should go on Facebook and ask his father or ask Jack on one of his Twitter accounts.

    Enough of this!

It's common sense to decipher that he is not going to make a decision on what country he plays for until after the England game, at the earliest.

It's a pointless exercise bringing him up in the meantime.

So Grealish wouldn't add anything to the U21s? Have you ever heard of planning for the future? It is something most coaches do, hence journalists asking questions about him. And I haven't heard you whinge about the impact that Christie and McGoldrick's inclusion had on team morale? You really know nothing about people and motivations, you just spout out of touch opinions on nationality and eligibility.

    Hi, gastric.

I was referring to the senior team, not the U-21 team, but Grealish has declined successive invitations to link up with the U-21's. Noel King and Martin O'Neill have invited him to link up with their respective squads. As Roy Keane said, you can't really force the issue after that. If he wants to focus on getting a new contract over the line and breaking into the Villa team that's his prerogative. There is no need to keep asking the manager & assistant redundant questions.

I don't understand what you mean when you bring up Christie & McGoldrick. I do know about Christie & McGoldrick's motivations. It's pretty simple. They want to play International football. McGoldrick is on record as being very eager to play for Ireland and productive about getting the required paperwork over the line. Christie has outright said that he chose to declare for Ireland because he is more likely to get first team football than he would if he declared for England; he also said that there aren't many players ahead of him. And he has come from League One football to starting an Intl. game in the space of 3 months. So he's probably thinking he has made the right decision already.

Whatever about his lack of affinity for Ireland, his honesty and transparency is refreshing, and he did at least ease a few doubts over his ability with his performance on Tuesday.
