    I knew you wouldn't.

A geographically biased and/or culturally biased joke.

Quite a bit of pessimism in The Sunday Times from Paul Rowan re: our defensive options. Dunne looks like he is retiring, O'Shea faces an uncertain future, Richard Keogh described as not good enough, Clark as error prone and Wilson not good enough to lead a defense in the Dunne mould but a decent option as a compliment to someone else.

Quite baffling not to mention Delaney in that case seeing as he has been our best defender (and probably 2nd or 3rd best player) this season. Delaney and Wilson would compliment each other quite well if we are going to select players on merit and form and nothing else.

Duffy too has looked like a Premier League player when he played for Everton, Hoban and Kiernan are still very young and have been linked with big clubs in the past and Mark O'Brien is still a great prospect if he can finally put his fitness woes behind him.

It is quite daunting but I think we have bigger issues than who plays CB. Dunne came out of nowhere to be an important player for Ireland and O'Shea has never really fulfilled his maximum potential.

Surely one our young lads will come good and at least in Delaney, we have a ready made replacement to assume a leadership role in Dunne's stead and even at 33 he has a vital and much earned role to play in plugging a gap in the short-to-medium term.

It's only baffling if you assume that Rowan was writing a genuine piece to examine the quality of our options, and not just being pessimistic for the sake of it.

Or why would I want to work for somebody who doesn't rate me?

To be fair he stresses that he's not Irish in the piece that was in the Indo, that's a pretty good reason not to play for a country.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

The headline is slightly misleading. Is it to give the impression Roy Keane's volatile personality is proving detrimental? Roy's "insult" didn't put Davies off playing for Ireland. Davies wasn't planning on declaring for us anyway.

Yeah, I wonder if this isn't Davies saying 'please stop asking me about declaring for Ireland, it's not happening.' Which is fair enough.

Anyone have any further info on the "€2.7million grant from the Irish Sports Council to boost the FAI's grassroots plans"?

I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Petr Cech looks like someone that should have been playing in the 1920s.

Aggressive posturing from the 1920's i.e. "I'm gonna lick you" could pass for awkward 21st century flirting.

Very speculative piece and not untypical of the Indo's style of undermining anything to do with the Irish team and set-up at every opportunity.

Any more news on whether John Robertson is getting involved? I enjoy Keane but in one way it could be a blessing in disguise if he was replaced with Robertson, such is the hysteria that surrounds him. I smell copious amounts of bullsh!t in any case.

John Robertson hasn't been very well. I think he had some problems with his heart last summer so not sure whether he's ready to get back into the football business.
