Ah, I deleted it. Thought somebody was making a cheeky joke but they were actually just saying they loved Trevor's Irish mum. I didn't know his Irish links were so close though.

Oh yeah, I'd read it before. Definitely in the "ones that got away, like really" camp. I think he was victim to the previous rules (tied by a u21 cap). Not sure though.

Could have been another Grealish affair though (not drawn out for 100 years, but that he might have still preferred England).

I've spent 15 minutes reading and laughing at that. Between the numbskulls posting abuse and the genuinely funny tweets, it's too gas. A lot of people forgetting the work we have to do to actually make the Euros. Also, as someone mentioned last night was the shot in the arm Irish football needed. We needed a monumental win to remind us how great it is to support to Ireland so it's no harm to show to all dual-eligible internationals awesome supporting and playing for Ireland can be, even if England and NI have qualified for Euro 2016 with comparative ease.

Decent interview with our Jack from the Herald: http://www.herald.ie/sport/dutch-loa...-31591938.html

That's terrible to see - there's some good-natured banter in there but it's mostly crude, nasty, vicious insults - puts a bit of a dent in the "best fans in the world" reputation, sadly

But we don't have that reputation. That's just a stick the haters use to beat us with.

Wasn't Seamus Coleman at some dinner with herself? I remember seeing it on TV.

Interesting life story. Missed the part relating to Jack Byrne - I'll try re-reading it.

Jack Byrne hasn't been mentioned on this page until your post there. Conversation evolved into a discussion on the media treatment of rugby and I thought I'd add a contribution. If tets feel it'd be more appropriate in another thread, I can move it, but he's posted a solely-rugby/football debate-related post himself. Don't blame me!

    Just for you, OwenGoal.

On the other discussion, here's that piece of Ewan MacKenna's again where he outlines his feelings on the favourable treatment reserved for rugby in Ireland: https://ewanmackenna.wordpress.com/2...n-think-again/

    It was very good.

JB's comments are bang on. I kind of like the McKenna piece but as one of my mates says, rugby can't pick its followers.

Not to be pedantic or anything, but what he describes isn't Irish football. It's Irish players in English football.

Seems like a down-to-earth lad with a bit of humour about him.

Played against AZ Alkmaar recently and fans comment positively on his Instagram post after the game: https://instagram.com/p/8-JEKnk1QN/

Great interview with Dion Fanning, really Insightful. Starting to get excited about this lad, he is the real deal.

He seems like a pretty impressive focused young man....we need to get him in and around the senior squad now to bed him in

He actually specifically says in the article he doesn't want that to happen.

He doesn't really.... unless "bed him in" and "make up the numbers" mean the same thing, which they don't. Presuambly there'd be some kind of an induction though, that almost goes without saying, especially for a player so young.

That's obviously their decision to make. If they think I'm ready, I'll be ready whenever they want me. It would be nice if they did, but obviously they'd have to think that I'm ready to compete for a place.

I don't want to go there to make up the numbers and just be there for training. I want to go there because I think I'm good enough to be there and because I think I'm good enough to compete for a place.
