City had players on loan at Bastia and Lille last season. Could be either of those. Or any of the other teams in Ligue 1

Seems to believe he is more likely to win an Ireland call-up by playing in England.

Nowhere in that article does he say that, an the quotes are all taken from the BBC interview I linked earlier

Sooner or later, someone's going to twist those words into "why is he happy to be at Blackburn when he have been playing Champions League with PSG?"

"My bread and butter is Blackburn, so hopefully if I'm playing and playing well, I'll be in (Martin O'Neill's) thoughts. It (The Championship) is (a good stage to earn senior international recognition).

"That's part of the reason why I came here and didn't go back to Holland. You know, I had options in France, I had options in Israel, I had options everywhere.
Maybe I took it up the wrong way.

Looks like goal.com inserted something extra into those quotes. go back and listen to the original interview - https://audioboom.com/boos/4770779-m...move-from-mcfc
    At 5:10
Byrne: My bread and butter is Blackburn, so hopefully if I'm playing well, - playing and playing well y'know, hopefully I'll be in his thoughts
Interviewer: It's a stage to really catch the eye really, the Championship, isn't it?
Byrne: It is, yeah. That's part of the reason why I came here and didn't go back to Holland, or, I had options in France, I had options in Israel, I had options everywhere, y'know. Maybe people don't know me that well in England, but because I've played in Europe, a lot of people know me around Europe
Seems that he wants to raise his profile in England, where people don't know him, more than he thinks that playing in England will give him a better chance of playing for Ireland

    Byrne made his debut today.

The natives think he added a lot of spark when he came on, demanding the ball and increasing their forays forward.

A good bit of praise reserved for Stoksey too.

Duffy seems to be absolved of the blame for the team performance, and in fact his performance was noted as one of the few positives.

    Poor showing for Lenihan.

Sunday Times gave Duffy 4/10 this morning, though without mentioning him in the match report.

Hope I'm wrong u but seeing him on the bench yesterday makes me still think that he'll be seen as too small for midfield in the championship. Does anyone know where he played when he came on? Was he put on the wing?
    Its really not that complicated!!!

Started 6 games for Blackburn and came on as sub in another earlier in the season in League and League Cup action. But seems to have fallen out of favour a bit since then, being an unused sub on 12 occasions.

    Thanks.
Think I read somewhere he had options for another loan to the continent but preferred to play in the UK.
He's on loan at Blackburn for the full season, if I was him I'd be trying to get out of there already.
It must be pretty frustrating after all the game time he got last season.

He could have been rubbish for all I know but seems odd a highly-rated player who did so well in Holland wouldn't get more chances. I thought the decision to go to Blackburn was a strange one to start with and it obviously didn't work out. I'd like to see him go out on the continent again instead of sticking with the second tier or lower in England.

Yes if it's true lets hope he has learned from it and is hungry for a few games. If he has another opportunity to play on the continent he might not be so reluctant to accept this time.

Lancashire Telegraph reporting he's going back to City: http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk...alking_Points/
With Jack Byrne and Stephen Hendrie heading back to their respective clubs in January, Marvin Emnes’ loan up in the middle of January, uncertainty over the future of Ben Marshall and a lengthy injury list, Rovers need some fresh faces to add both quality and competition for the vital second half of the season

Fellow loanee Jack Byrne hasn’t started a game for Rovers since August, and Coyle added: “I have had dialogue with Manchester City over Jack Byrne who we know is a very talented player.

“He will have a terrific career but I think it’s important Jack gets some game-time and he’s not had that of late.

“To be fair he has been ill over Christmas. The likelihood is that Jack will return to Manchester City and get some game-time, whether that be with another loan spell or in the youth teams.

“Martin Samuelsen leaving as well has obviously freed up some finance that we will look to use.”
