Terrific for Pats if they're going full time, but hard to see how they can afford it unless Kelleher's found another couple of million down the back of a sofa.

I'd imagine they're mostly on full time wages as it is. A player can live easily enough on 400-500 a week. A squad of 18 players on 500 a week is only 9,000, which even by League of Ireland standards isn't absolutely out of this world. Large European income as well as the title winning money should see them do it comfortably enough for one season at least on a trial basis. As long as they don't go offering silly contracts of 2 and 3 years then it's a good move in my view for the League champions to have a real go at Europe.

Yep, go full time and have a serious crack at Europe. Sure, what could possibly go wrong ? I'm just amazed no one ever thought of it before.

I think they'd need to maintain success and a good attendance everyweek for the next couple of years before they give professional football a go. It'd be a nice idea but as mentioned earlier, can't see Kelleher stumping up the money

The way we have it now is perfect. Can't see it changing.

Kenna the most replaceable of the back five.

400-500 might be grand for people to live on, and a lot do, but there's a reason why a lot of players in the league prefer the part-time set up. Once lads get into their mid 20s and start having families, it doesn't sound like such a great lifestyle anymore.

Some of your crowd have a real hard-on for O'Hanlon. Never really got into the game when I saw him.

400-500 a week into a player's hand is almost double that by the time all tax, PRSI etc is paid.

Yeah Josh has had some excellent games for us considering his age. Peterborough have watched him several times and there's been other clubs linked too. He's understandably raw but he's got a lot going for him, pace, strength, aerial ability, good shot on him. Lacks a bit of composure at the moment but you'd imagine that'll come with experience.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

We are close enough to full time as it is, we train during the day and only 1 or 2 of our players work outside of football. I'd say our budget is at 9 or 10,000 a week, apparently we are very strict when it comes to our wage structure and budget and this wont change for anyone.
    Here on a technicality.

No it isn't. Nor is it anything close.

The 40% tax band doesn't kick in till over €32k (€615 pw in 52 wk year but €888 in 36 wk yr). Therefore they would be taxed at 20%.

Even adding in the USC and prsi contributions and deducting tax credits you are talking about €500 gross to net €400.

€800 indeed to net €400. Your boss must be giving you a tub of Vaseline instead of a wage slip.

Part time players would more than likely be on the higher tax band as they have other jobs as well.
