    The Radius Rule

Its one of the biggest rules and subsequent changes that is affecting the grassroots game domestically. Its contentious because there is for and against clubs queue skipping in an effort to avoid developing young players but reap the rewards once there is a sign of ability. The rule is meant to prevent/allow clubs cherry-picking players from other clubs instead of developing players from their local catchment area.

There has been heated discussion and some have been taken to task on it now as well ...

if Schoolboy football is forced to go to 80km to pacify one big League it's a sad day for underage soccer. And when all the affiliates realise the ramifications they might reflect on how they voted. This rule affects all unless common sense prevails and this rule only applies when affiliates try to being in new rules from now.
I think this lad has it right, its basically one league trying to flex its muscles on a rule is needed all over the country. Its self serving and blatantly obvious that it not fair, its detrimental to the grassroots game here and people need to stand up and champion the common sense stance. 50km is absolutely more than enough (except for the handful of clubs it affects because they are so rural) for 98% of the country and anything more is tantamount to an admission of guilt in neglect of players locally, its absolutely self serving and flies in the face of any policy which strives to develop all young players in this country.

any word on the radius rule ? totally agree with it, it be better for all sfai competitions if clubs were developing their own players instead of cherry picling from outside their own county

Better ask the FAI to check with the governing body of all football in Ireland, the league who must be obeyed - the DDSL.

Can anyone clarify if the current Radius Rule is 50km or 80km?

Radius rule might as well be 4,499km for all it's observed.

What needs to happen is when a team from country is beat in national cup, they need to object to all players on card and take it all the way, ddsl will have to prove that they are within the 49k,might be interesting.

That would be interesting aright - but the 49km rule appears to be amended by either 50km (SFAI) or 80km (FAI)

The absence of any opinion on clarification of this seems to indicate that few (on this forum anyway) can say for sure.
