Celebrating 130 Years of Athlone Town Football Club - Pride of the Midlands Since 1887
Can anyone confirm that Jason Hughes has resigned? I heard a deal was done yesterday.

I heard he was offered a deal in November, he agreed to it but nothing more was done after that. Hopefully he is signed up. I'd say a few nore will be signed in the next week or so from last seasons squad with pre-season starting back. Taylor had said on the radio also that he wants to get a look at some new players in training before signing them.

That last bit worries me a little bit. Not many players will go on trial at a club unless they're really struggling to get a contract elsewhere. I'd imagine that any LOI players that could have improved us are nearly all tied up.
Have a feeling we'll be seeing a few UK based players coming in towards the end of January.
Any update on the new assistant manager?

The club must be back in talks with him. Hopefully at the supporters club meeting tomorrow night and Q&A with Stuart Taylor we might get more news re-signings.
Would be a poor decision to sign him again his attitude is poor he has shown he doesn't want to be here. The only reason he would have any interest now is cos he can't get anywhere else. Taylor is always talking about how he only wants people that want to be here and have the right attitude so i hope he sticks to that. We need a new winger and striker imo not just the same frontline as we had last season.
I'd take him back so long as it wasn't at the expensive of a potential new signing the club are looking at. I think his attitude isn't too bad, the most annoying part is his selfishness and decision making at times. Maybe not getting another club may have knocked some modesty into him. He is a good finisher though and very pacey. Doesn't seem like a winger though going on last season.
It'd surprise me just because of how much Taylor used to scream at him. I'd say you're right that we struggled to get anyone to replace his pace.
Have heard Shane Tracy and Dave O'Leary are closer to signing their contracts. Have also heard there could be a couple of junior players around for pre season to see if they can stick the intensity. I imagine it'd be the usual Clarke, Waters, Colbert etc... (If true)
Anyone heard anything on new assistant manager? I'd like to see someone "local" just because they'd know the Irish players in the league a bit better.
Wouldn't be surprised though if the junior lads that were there the last time didn't have an interest in more training and looking at them.
What happened to Malky?
Did he get a better offer or did Taylor get rid of him?
Going by instagram it looks like Dave has signed. He was back for pre-season training anyway. Great news if he has signed up.
