Yep. 9 of the FC Vaduz squad are in the Liechtenstein squad and they have the same manager, also some regulars for Liechtenstein cant get their place in the Vaduz side. They're no mugs, I've said that all along.
So all of those people critisising(spelling) our performance against Vaduz, They drew with Euro 2004 finalists Portugal last night. Wonder how Cork and Shels would get on against Portugal???

And 3 of the Vaduz players scored, albeit 1 of them being an o.g.![]()

Liectenstein results through the years.
BTW most of their "best" players dont play for Vaduz
Not udated for the last match
78.2% of statistics are made up on the spot..I still say that Vaduz were no mugs and I'll continue to say that, based on my view of what constitutes a good team. I could say to you that most of Vaduz's best players aren't from Liechtenstein, they've 11 different nationalities in their squad. Eoin you've never seen them play, i have twice, as I've seen every Eircom Premier Division team at least twice this season and i'm telling you by eL standards this current FC Vaduz team are not a bad side and would beat or at least go close to beating most Premier Division teams. You don't spend €2.4m every year and be a joke side. You read far too much into history and not enough into current circumstances, they've said themselves they've only started pumping proper money in in the past two years.

Dont mean to go on about this but Vaduz signed three players for this season.
The great Eyke Bismark from Fiorentina, the even greater Thomas Weller from Winterthur (From who?) and the fantastic Eduardo dos Santos (Isnt that Peles real name) from Wohlen.
And your point is.Judging players on the fact that you havnt heard of the club they were signed from?Originally Posted by eoinh
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.
point is there was 80 teams in the 1st qualifying round of the UEFA Cup and you lost to the 80th best team!!!
There is no hiding behind that fact,,,
The fact that you even think that its ok to be beaten by a side in the swiss 2nd division shows how serious you actually took the game![]()
As I have said before,
Longford seemed to approach the game thinking they would lose and all the pre match comments and after game analysis suggest that they didnt take themselves seriously enough and suffered because of it...
If you are not ambitious enough to beat the lowest ranked team i Europe this year then who exactly do you want to draw next season if you get there?
What complete rubbish!Originally Posted by higgins
Even before this season, Liechtenstein were ranked 43rd of 52 countries in Europe, so I can't see how Vauz can be the worst team in Europe!
Maybe (though it's unlikely) you mean they were 80th of 80 seeded teams, which still means they were seeded higher than Longford and so would have been expected to win.
Who was the seeded team, incidentally?

hands up!!
I was wrong about them being the lowest seeds..
But they were very close to being the lowest seeds
Longford were the Seeded side and they failed to beat that rubbish and didnt seem to care that they didnt win either which was a big worry...
Yeah we lost to a full time team, with a playing budget multiplies of ours. What a disgrace we are....Originally Posted by higgins

If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
The way i see it is like this.Every club has it's bad night in Europe and LTFC were in the middle of a terrible run at the time. This was only LTFC's second european experience.Vaduz were not that bad of a side and were a full time side which is a definite advantage over LTFC but the bottom line is LTFC just did not perform over the 2 legs. After an average performance in the 1st leg we conceeded an early away goal in Flancare and that was it.Everyone who was at that match was disapointed in the LTFC performance but we did not disgrace the EL.Now that Cork & Shels are the kings of europe i'm sure they will never have a bad night in europe again.

Stop kidding ourselves it was a disgrace to us and the league that vaduz beat us. It looks as though the only ones that don't see that are the people posting above who are funnily enough are town fans. Lets face it it was an embarressment and thats that.
It has already been mentioned, but has consistently been ignored, that the Vaduz game was played at a time when the team was playing crap and confidence was at a low ebb. We were in serious relegation type trouble at the time which was a far more serious issue than Europe.
We were in as suitable a state to play an important match then, as say ... Drogheda would be now.![]()
I'm not a Longford fan and I defend the Vaduz game. The Swiss Premier Division (Super League I think it's called) though not one of Europe's top leagues would be on a tier several levels higher than us. Therefore their first division is probably on the level of or a bit better than the eL. Vaduz are a highly ambitous club who finished second in this league last year and are only 3 points off the top this year. Yes eL clubs should aspire to be better than the Swiss 1st Division but we should not make out it was a humiliation for us. Disappointment yes, but Longford lost to a side with vastly more European experience, playing both in the UEFA and former Cup Winners Cup practically every season and the majority of their players playing international football every year.
Here here me auld son!
I'm sure the swiss super league is better than ours but its a shame vaduz play in the league below it. So they aren't in the top league.
What a stupid tread. We lost to them, but then they beat them, then some of them beat them, and then they lost to them, so that makes us great?

Roll on Saturday till we see what your made of!
But I think you'll clearly admit if Longford were drawn Millwall despite not being in the top league you would have to admit they'd be favourites and a better club (excluding the scum bag fans thing), so it has nothing to do about not being the top league but more to do with the quality of the division itself. Obviously losing to a Faoese 1st Division side woud be disgraceful but Vaduz are the next best team aside from the top flight in Switzerland which is a country who's domestic game is a fair bit stronger than ours. Coupled with this they are a team with an abundance of international and European experience.Originally Posted by techs
