Go back to his thread or Wigan when I pointed out Derby defeats and massive problems with his defensive structure.he took a really sound defensive unit and completely ruined them. If he'd only listened or read his forum back then he mightn't be in the position he is

It was the same rhetoric over and over and it became a bit hollow after a while from him. I feel a bit sorry for him cos he seems like a nice guy.

Paul, you do realise the whole world knows that he's a very attack minded manager and therefore his Achille's Heel has generally been his team's defensive problems. He had a brilliant first season at Everton, of course he was going to be given credit for that at the time. I'm all for you arrogantly patting yourself on the back if you make some shrude observation that was a long way short of common knowledge, but come on....

I, for one, would like to see evidence of these posts, and that nobody, anywhere, ever, had spoken of the defensive deficiencies of Martinez's team beforehand

Wasn't it Predator and Charlie who discussed and dissected the reasons for Everton's defensive frailties?

I can honestly say I heard Paul discuss this at a public Q&A forum with some well known football figures and the consensus was that Paul's question was the best. Not only that but it was the most articulately presented question of the day.

    McCarthys goal was a peach.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Was that not the one where no one understood the question and the well known figures were left speechless looking at each other in bewilderment?

Cracking goal for McCarthy today. Just saw it on 'MOTD'. Commentator saying it's a contender for Everton's goal-of-the-season. I've not seen the rest of them, but I'll take his word for it.

His rare goals seem to always come very late in the season.

Great strike but if that's their goal of the season I'm not too interested in seeing the rest of them! A very Gibson-like shot actually.

Good thing you can't use Google to restrict search results to a certain website.

Paul, I've been banging the drum on this site for some time that you are the oracle of truth on all football matter.

I just wish I'd realised it sooner so geysir and I didn't waste so much time gushing over Martinez's rigid system and Sacchi-like commitment to defensive solidity.

Great strike by McCarthy but he was allowed to waltz forward and nobody really picked him up.

The Norwich defence seems to be all over the place, nobody marked up, no surprise they are going down.

Great strike, but it was basically a free hit, doubt he will get too many of those in the Euro's

Google search does kinda work, this isnt the post i was looking for as its only from 3/4 years ago. There was one from around 2011 I think where i went through about spurs and chelsea hammering them but i can't find it, and went through all martinez stats and how poor they were defensively.

I think Martinez got them playing the way he wanted(and has done the same at Everton but inherited a better Defence), but a poor defensive record created mixed results, he lacked 1 or 2 players that perhaps would have given them a defensive solidity that seemed to be lacking, I do remember some big drubbings at Chelsea and spurs, i also think they condeded nearly 80 goals one season and something like 70 another. I remember Martinez complaining about defenders all getting injured around the same time especially the season they got relegated. I reckon had they a solid Defence they would always have acheived around mid to mid-lower table, perhaps that was Martinez' flaw, he was more focused on the playing side of the game, than being solid defensively.

And all of this is to prove what again?.... that you were the only one to notice Wigan conceded lots of goals?

I think it was in Leon Osman's book that under Roberto they never practiced defending set plays.
    Lets talk about six baby
