I wasn't blaming him for the defeat.

Ya i'd agree about mccarthy he was caught out very badly for one of the goals but a few instances where he just got caught for pace. I think this has always been an issue with him, never the quickest, perhaps he can overcome this by smarter positioning. I still don't see the hype yet though, far too inconsistent in the performances i have seen. Some good, the odd very good and the rest average.

Actually, McCarthy has won me over this season. I thought he was talked up beyond what he was delivering but I think he's one of these quietly effective players who helps secure midfield for more attacking players. He's done well this season. I'm not sure I'd call the praise he's getting "hype".

Good + very good + average = better than average

I said the rest meaning the majority were average, not quite the same as dividing by 3 across total ratings.

I think he has shown himself this season to be a decent top 10/mid table midfielder thus far. Nothing less nothing more. Which isn't to be sniffed at, but the way he was talked up, not necessarily here but he was going to be a big thing like top 3/4 quality. I mean the fact that Everton fans were fawning at the 13 mil spent for a player who few had been particularly aware of or less stick in the mind. He had hardly made that big an impact in the premiership to warrant the move at least in their minds - and I'd say you could have swapped that for any other team in the PL. The Everton rumours aside who else actually was interested? Had martinez not been appointed to Everton he would more than likely be playing in the Championship. Thats not the place for a player bigged up as much as he was.

Paul, just stop now before you say anything else you haven't bothered researching.

No i watched the games i dont need to do research like ye on here to back up your points, I get them first hand. Based on my assessment of him in those games I gave my opinion.

And your opinion that he'd be playing in the Championship if Everton hadn't come in for him? In spite of the fact he's clearly demonstrated his worth already and the fact there were a few teams trailing him but were never likely to beat Martinez.

We often hear this trailing, transfer rumours charlie, which bit do you understand and which bit do you not? We hear loads of these and most are untrue. McMenamen was very good as was maloney towards the end of the season...they still ended up there.

Maloney is a journeyman and McManaman had a good few weeks. McCarthy is and was a class above. You can't just dismiss transfer rumours just because it suits you.

Youre right we can't but we almost always do on here until it actually happens.because we've learnt from experience that 90%-I didn't research this, before you throw out some silly line, its an expression- of the time nothing comes of it.

It was very well-documented that Newcastle were interested. If he hadn't been able to get a move before the deadline (due to nothing else but Wigan's high valuation of him), he'd have made his move in January.

I think he looks like Ken Casey out of Dropkick Murphys.

Everton drawn away to the winners of Arsenal and Liverpool in the F.A. Cup quarter final. Bit of a disaster draw really given some of the teams left.

Yea bad news for Everton, Forest got the pick of the draws assuming they win, they
were 1-0 up but now 1-1.

A trip to the Emirates is much more favourable, at least, as it will be only a couple if days before Arsenal's return leg in Munich and a subsequent run of very difficult fixtures for the Gunners. Still a big ask but if they could bring them back to Goodison I'd nearly fancy them.

Fairly robbed there. McCarthy excellent defensively. Really kept Hazard out of the game. McGeady came on with over ten minutes left and was very good. Some great work defensively, including one really excellent tackle. Took a ball out of the sky at one stage with a lovely touch. Used the ball well and put in one really dangerous ball with his left foot from the right hand side. Coleman was sound defensively but unusually poor in possession, a couple of very sloppy passes and lost possession four or five times under no huge pressure.
