I used to be like you and needed to see "evidence" of Paul's premonitions. You'll learn not to doubt in future.

Sods law says if he had been defending a similar ball he would have put it in the back of the net.

Coleman and McCarthy both came off the bench last night. McCarthy could have been braver for De Bruyne's cross that set up the winner. He did a bit of a John O'Shea and turned his arse on it, making himself as small as possible. I'd happily take a smack of a ball in the face to have a cup final at Wembley to look forward to.

Edit- I just seen it again and it's even worse than I remember, he practically got out of the way of it. He also did that silly 'hands behind his back' thing, which was even more unnecessary than usual as he wasn't even in the penalty box.

Not very impressive really, you should really be trying to charge down the ball.
Mind you, that is less than half the story, what about £30 million pound defender John Stones?
Free header for Aguero, surely he can't let him get in front of him like that? He is not much use
standing behind him there, might as well not be on the pitch.

Indeed he is worth £50 million now apparently!!

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...-defend.htmlHe

He has done McCarthy a favour actually as he is not even mentioned in the article.

    Complimentary of Coleman though!!

This was a horrible night for Everton's defenders, brutally exposed by one of the most feared strikers in world football when Sergio Aguero lost John Stones in the 76th minute. He is still looking for him.

The Everton defender, shuffled out to right back to accommodate captain Phil Jagielka and Ramiro Funes Mori, was caught napping when Aguero scored City's third with his head.

'They've got a problem with John Stones at right back,' claimed Sky analyst Jamie Redknapp. 'He's not a right back.

You've got Seamus Coleman who's a better right back than him and Stones has got to go and play centre back.' Aguero put this tie to bed and the countless replays will be a reminder that Stones, right back or centre back, must put his nut in where it hurts to keep the ball out of that net.Martinez responded by substituting him, sending for Coleman in a desperate attempt to take this tie into extra-time. It was never going to happen.

Aguero tends to lose a lot better and more experienced defenders than Stones. He's getting a hard time lately but that just goes with poor results. He's still only a kid, learning to swim at the deep end, build them up to knock them down is the English way.

Yeah I'm glad McCarthy is getting a bit of a free ride but it was disappointing to see from our point of view, not his usual style to be fair. This was much higher on the commitment scale from himself and Baines a short time later.

Well Obviously Man City paid big buck for Aguero for a reason one being his ability to lose defenders.
Actually you only just see it at the start of the clips where Aguero nips inside him, would need to
seem from a bit earlier though.

Maybe he could say in his defence he was expecting McCarty to block the cross!

I do think he was built up too much though I have not see too much too impress me although I don't particularly look out for him.

Pretty much all I can remember is errors!

But anyway it was a great cross and a great header and not too impressive defending on that occasion.

I think Stones is a big talent to be honest. It probably doesn't help him that he's playing for a manager who focusses on the other side of the game more, and that Jagielka has been injured so much. Very little continuity. Perhaps he should be used more sparingly anyway? Obviously the price tag is insane but that's not his fault/problem. It usually takes centre backs until their mid-20's at the earliest to really find their feet and establish themselves. Chris Smalling, for example, has been around a long time at this stage but is only now he's really starting to look the part.

Our contingent will have a new manager this summer. It will be interesting to see who they appoint. Probably best to spare Martinez a hostile send off at Goodison on Sunday.

Three years left on his £4m a year contract... he'll be okay.

No wonder he didn't seem too worried about getting the tin tac

When is this kind of re-imbursement(?) going to be there for the ordinary Joe/Josephine

It will be interesting for McCarthy in particular I think. He's known nothing but Martinez since leaving Hamilton really at club level, bar a couple of weeks at Wigan. He's been a bit of a manager's pet under Martinez so might have to come out of his comfort zone a bit. Could be a good thing. A potential lifeline for Gibson, in particular, and maybe even McGeady too, doubtful though.

All papers saying Koeman top target this morning. A shame because (a) Long will continue to flourish under Koeman and (b) I want Koeman to take over at Arsenal!

Maybe Koeman will take Long with him! Lukaku might not be there much longer.

More importantly, any word on Coleman's injury ?
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Martinez had indicated that Coleman might have a chance of being involved at the weekend, unlike himself, fitness test depending. Here-

Well let's face it the players, like Everton were going nowhere under Martinez so hopefully a chance for the better,
unless they will be going to different club!

I must say Martinez always seemed rather uninspiring in his TV interviews.
