Remember those days when the national team went to Italy, the US and Japan and performed creditably in World Cup, all because we had a strong domestic league?
Me neither.
Just another excuse. Shouldn't be any surprise, though - throughout his career, Trapattoni has always responded to his own failures by blaming others, usually in the most condescending manner possible.
Well, to be fair, at that time the FAI were able to rely on other leagues to take our players and develop them at the business end of their playing careers, and it served both sides well, the other leagues cherrypicked players and were able to get rid of the duds/failures and wash their hands of that side of it completely free of any responsibility and the FAI were able to take the "ahh sure aren't we great, all our players are playing great in a different country outside of our jurisdiction" and wash their hands of the lads who don't make it AND they can mismanage all stages of domestic football because there is no spotlight to highlight where they are making an absolute bags of the game.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
Rumours that Trap off to take over the Lybian national side - thats Zayed fooked then!
Libyan - i humbly apologise for the error![]()
I assume because he plays for Libya. A minor detail but one I think is relevant to the discussion.
Am I missing something?
Zayed is a current Libyan international with five caps to his name. He scored his first goal for them in a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea last week.
Zayed plays in a league that Trap has only last week declared non existant. If he is picked in future there will be a certain irony...
assuming of course they do appoint him.

Still no statement from the league in response to Traps comments ..... Hullo? Is there anybody home?
It absolutely speaks volumes, they couldn't give a monkeys

I think a right meal's been made of the comment. It's daft to read it literally. Those who do so come across as seeking to be offended. It's obvious what Trapattoni actually meant, even if he did express it rather crudely. Then again, English isn't his first language. Mr A sums it up very well up-thread.
As for Trap perhaps having to select Zayed or whatever as a future Libya manager, that would be a completely different context.
Didn't a LoI XI take on an Ireland B one time around Mick McCarthy's time as manager? If Trap had to take charge of an Ireland B against a LoI XI, I think he'd have been more aware of the existence of our league. He might have seen a team and a set of players willing to play the game more like it should be as well.

A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.
