maybe have another think about that one, Jim.
Looks like Cousins is set to be handed a new contract: http://www.independent.ie/sport/socc...-29704545.html
Hanley said: "Tony has done a superb job here and I'd love him to stay. We'll certainly be sitting down for talks after this Friday. In the meantime, we have a couple of big matches to win."

He couldn't say much else in public before the game. It's still up in the air as far as I've heard and committee members themselves weren't sure what way it'd go. Jim is the one making the call and a decision one way or another is due next week seemingly.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
I think he's had his chance, and blew it (twice).. The first season was forgiveable given how strong Limerick were, but this year was dreadful.
i think everyone is going a bit hard considering we had so many injuries, i dont think it would of made any difference who we had as a manager we got too many of our players injured at the wrong times of the season.. id say he will be given another year considering each year he has finished higher, unless he walks he will be the manager next season, id be more worried bout what players we keep, we could be back to square one in terms of building a squad if we cant manage to keep the right players

Ah here, the amount of times we fell behind in games was just beyond ridiculous, especially to very early goals, and other points in the season there was issues with letting comfortable leads slip, there's a hell of a lot more wrong than just injurys..
It's all well and good fighting back in matches when you have nothing to lose, but by jesus we were usually useless otherwise. Sully got us out of jail lord knows how many times in otherwise poor performances, which papered over a hell of a lot of cracks.
Injurys sure didn't help, but the enormity of an advantage we let slip and eventually let Athlone build is inexcusable.

There was also the whole disruptive influence of the betting thing, which wasn't of his making either. We couldn't talk about for so long (online at least) that its slipped peoples minds, mine included. Does kinda soften my stance a bit adding that to the injuries.
Don't agree with that at all fitzy. We had the strongest squad in the league bar none, too often we were found wanting in terms of personnel and how we set up tactically. We gave away a 9 point lead and only were guaranteed a play off spot the last game of the season. In my opinion it's time for a new manager, we're probably going to be back to square one in terms of squad we may aswell bring in a new man.
That's my two cents anyway.
I never ever thought I'd be defending cousins but it's at the stage where I feel we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. If cousins is what keeps the likes of Ebbe, Gorman, Josh etc then I'd accept the club keeping him on as there's no good in our squad being torn apart. I agree we should have won the league and I still feel we should have gone up last year but the performances in the play-offs showed there is great spirit and character in the group so let's see how it plays out either way we need a quick decision
acc to papers today TC will make a decision when he comes back from his hols whether to stay or not.. I hope he goes as he has had enough chances given... Fair enough we ended the season well but I have never seen a town team that keeps letting in goals early.. Only for Chris Bennion we wouldnt have finished runners up. I have nothin against TC as a person but I dont think hes the right personality for the job..
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?
clearly we had the best squad but that was before the whole team decided to become injury prone!!, what cost us was the fact we had a different back four each week, we let in far too many goals and had very few clean sheets.. i dont think any manager could of done any better with the players we had available, if you look at the results up until samo and a few other key players got injured, it then had a dip as we were bringing in new faces and just as partnerships were starting to form more injuries happened.. ffs we had to get chris deans back to play! like not much tony could do in that situation .. plus the whole match fixing aswell and have to say imo the players he got in were great bar derek o brien...
like i think your asking alot to go up when you have deans and rhys plaing in cb.. we were just unlucky we were goosed with injuries again this season

maybe its crap im sure it will become clearer in a few days i heard it from a club supporter in dublin. but it is the silly season
Before the game I had heard he had booked a holiday in Portugal as he didn't expect Longford to be in the play-off final, but I was speaking to a club official afterwards and they said he has a sister who lives abroad who is ill at the moment, so he was excused from playing.
Edit: Hanley was quoted again in last Friday's Indo on Cousins' situation: http://www.independent.ie/sport/socc...-29717408.html
I'm not so sure the rest of the board are as enthusiastic. Now in his fifth season at Longford, Cousins has just been promised a sixth by Hanley. "He was loyal to us when we were in trouble. He deserves us to be loyal too," he said.

Well that's better news about Ebbe, at least the club knew before hand, he didn't just drop them in it. Sorry to hear his sister isn't well. As for the Josh rumours we should all wish him well, as if he does go to England it will be a blow for De Town but will help attract more players being able to say look we are watched by scouts you don't have to play in the premier league to get noticed, every cloud has a silver lining and all that
If that's true about his sister then it's totally understandable but why all the whispers and secrets. Obviously before the game say nothing as it would be an insight for bray but surely inform the fans after the game.
No point openly criticising him unless you know the truth and if it is a case that he has a sick sister i'm sure he wasn't too keen on it being announced,
Don't see what the big deal is anyway, Derek O'Brien was on his holidays for most of the season and there wasn't a big deal made..
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.
Well I've been told that isn't the case 100% and it was a pre-planned trip, obviously you couldn't expect the club to pay for him to travel a day later or anything it was just bad planning on his behalf, still frustrating as I thought he was excellent Monday night.
