Cork City's best crowds in the last 13 year was 2003 before Pat Dolan. http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn.htm Im not sure where they get the stats from but seems close to accurate.

    This is apparently correct.

Very interesting list. Surprised to see how low some attendances are - look at Hungary and Serbia. I presumed we were one of the very worst in Europe - but seemingly not.

Seeing as everyone has to chip in with a claim for their own club Dundalk *may* have had the biggest attendance at a competitive game involving a LoI side.... official attendance at Vasas Budapest v Dundalk in the 1967-8 European Cup at the Nepstadion (now Puskas Stadion) in Budapest was in the 80,000s, helped by the fact it was a double header with Ferencvaros v Arges Pitesti. It was 1-1 after half an hour, that's all you need to know about the scoreline!

True Charlie, he just didn't have the respect of all the prima-donnas in the squad... but they showed him with back-to-back midtable finishes!

What about the European away games involving Irish clubs? Rovers & Waterford both played in Old Trafford, must have been a huge crowds s it was Busby Babes era for Rovers & George Best era for Waterford. Also Dundalk player Porto away in the Uefa Cup in 1980, forget the figure but I'm sure it was circa 50k, the first leg was a 0-0 draw, so the tie was very much alive.

Dundalk, Rovers & Pats all played away to Celtic also in Europe.

I think there was a Bohs Rovers FAI Cup replay that drew 10,000 in the early 90s, was at Dalymount

the title playoffs that season in the early 90s - Bohs, Cork and Shelbourne - drew some big crowds

I imagine Rovers got some big crowds in their title winning season at the RDS too

Not forgetting Athlone playing Ac Milan in the European Cup. San Siro holds 80000 now ( not sure if it was the same back then)

The min I logged on and saw ATFC, I knew I forgot about the Milan v Athlone match in the mid 70's.

    Apologies!

It is a mystery how St Pats crowds are so poor this year with the nice soccer they are playing, I went to two games myself and there was only over 1k at both on lovely sunny evenings to be outdoor. Did some Pats fans follow Crolly and the big name players to Shamrock Rovers as they were expected to win the league by most people at the start of the season. A crowd of 2k plus should be possible on Friday as Bohs will bring a decent support after their good result in the last league game.
Hibs were Northside and Celtic were Southside.

Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Pats played against the Iran National side on front of 60,000+ in Tehran, back in 1990. The game finished 0-0.

39k is not the record though is it? Bohs - Rovers in the 1945 cup final was over 44,000

Not far as I remember? Flower Lodge was in Douglas, no direct bus from the Northside.

Celtic Hibs games in the 70`s drew "gates" of £15,000, at a time when kids got in for 20 pence and adults tickets were a £. I remember at the time that a £800 gate in Dalymount was about 1500 people, so work it out.

Sadly ,I was at the Waterford/ Celtic game, my abiding memory is that when a riot kicked off between Belfast and Derry based Celtic fans on the South Terrace, there was plenty of room! My memory of the crowd was that it was a lot less than, say the Ireland Swiss game a few years later, which was jammed,

The Rovers /Pats game, opening the RDS to Association Football in the 90`s?, had 21,000 for a league game. A lot of people there out of curiosity, including myself. Worst 0-0 draw ever.
