Waterford FC & Waterford U are the same Club but traded as a different company. In 1982 Waterford FC encountered serious financial difficulties. The Board simply shut down the company operating WFC and reformed the following day with a new company with a name change but the Club remained the same. All the old personal etc stayed in place and continued as before.
To give you other examples of this would be Middlesborough FC and Limerick City/United/FC.
To back up my argument, if you look at the bottom of the WUFC Lotto ticket you will see "Rules and conditions subject to Waterford FC".
Also if you read the UEFA, FAI and the official Waterford United sites you will see that Waterford United FC were founded in 1930

We went out in 2001 to the highly rated Liteks Lovech of Bulgaria. We drew with them one all at home (should have beaten them) and went down two nil away, both their goals coming in injury time. Lovech went on to beat four or five teams after us including Aek Athens if memory serves me correct! Not bad for a team just promoted from the EL First Division the year previous!

R3: AEK Athens (GRE), 2-3* & 1-1
Longford were beaten by a good team
My wish list for Sunday.
1. A good open game of footie, which will advertise the domestic soccer scene and hopefully convert a few Old Traffordites into spending less on flights and more on their local clubs.
2. A good ref and competent linesmen, who tolerate no thuggery, and who allow number 1 above to happen.
3. An early goal.
4. A very large crowd.
5. Good T.V. analysis at half time.
6. On balance, Longford to win, to reward their honest grafting approach as compared with the thuggery which overshadows Waterford's good footballing image.

Thanks for that confirmation. Might shut up some of those l@ngers for a while. Get yer facts right ****ies. We didn't fcuk up, we were narrowly beaten by a quality side on our first of many european adventures.Originally Posted by CuanaD

But remember one of the teams they beat was Longford obviously.
And err Union Berlin didnt play in the top divison of Germany. even bad teams wouldnt lose to a non topflight team. (oh sorry, Longford did!).
So besides yerselves the only topflight team they beat was Inter Bratislava.![]()
just the fans corner, coz i see Pat Dolan has tipped waterford! oh Pat!!Originally Posted by thecorner

1997/98 Lazio - Milan 0-1 3-1
1998/99 Parma - Fiorentina 1-1 2-2

2000/01 Fiorentina - Parma 1-0 1-1
2001/02 Parma - Juventus 1-2 1-0
2002/03 Milan - Roma 4-1 2-2
2003/04 Lazio - Juventus 2-0 2-1
Usually won by teams in the top division who wont win the league in the year in question. I mean here where are Juventus? The only big italian club to win here is Milan and that year they only scrapped in to CL qualifying in third position and they needed to make sure of europe.
Juve dont even play their cup matchs in Turin anymore - thats how interested they are. One of the last times they played a cup match in Turin something like 74 people turned up.
There are lies, damned lies and statistics!
