Not so much worried about the crest, as it is not unlike the one they had in the 1966 Final, but the new strip irks me. What is a football club after all but the name and the colours (not the plc or foreign owner or whoever behind the scenes). The latest is almost pure blue with token white stripes (sort of Ipswich). It's a bit like Celtic or Rovers playing in all green with tiny white hoops. Don't like it but I suspect they'll go back to the more distinctive stripes when Newcastle run away with the league.

Always liked SW crest, like Derby and Forests they are kinda untouchable unless they go absolutely stellar. And in fairness I think the new one is brilliant. Love when teams go back to the past and draw inspiration.

I do think Forest's is untouchable. It's perfect. Though I wouldn't have the stars on it for balance.

If Shelbourne had won two European Cups I bet you'd like the stars to rub your rivals noses in it.

Defo. But they look better on top of the crest.

I'm happy enough with the one star we have over ours as it is.

    Yup.

The old (proper) crest is still used for ceremonial purposes, curiously, including on degrees. And on UCD keyrings in the club shop.

Oh aye yeah I know. Thankfully. Lob that onto a "retro jersey" and you're sorted.

Lived in the city all my life and didn't know that! I thought it was because Shels were famous for defensive football.
I feel ashamed and humiliated but then I am used to that following Sheffield Wednesday. I must ask other acquaintances do they know this to try and ease my hurt feelings.

You honestly had no idea that the three castles were a Dublin reference? Mad. They're everywhere!!!

I wouldn't have known the castles were a symbol of Dublin were it not on my Dublin City FC shirt.

Were they Irish? As Irish as the harp and shamrock are the castles epitomise Dublin. MADNESS!

I'd have been familiar with the crest from the old Dublin GAA jerseys but would never really have wondered why they're used, or what they represent. It seems nobody really knows for sure anyway!

    Dublin City Coat of Arms

The origin of the Coat of Arms is unknown, but there are numerous theories. Three of these include:
    • The castles are watch towers outside the city walls
    • The castle is Dublin Castle and is repeated 3 times because of the mystical significance of the number 3
    • The castles are not castles at all, but represent 3 gates into the ancient Viking city

No one may know the actual meaning but the fact that they represent the city and county is unquestionable.
