Very unlikely on both counts I would say.

I usually update the Town Twitter feed, but was away that evening and had problems with internet reception on my phone. My apologies for lack of updates. Does Extratime even have a report of the game?

If we are as toothless up front and give athlone the half chances that Wexford had last night, I would be very worried tbh. It appears confidence is low, if Sullivan had the 3 chances he had last night at the start of the year, I'd say he would have taken them. I don't want to get too down heartened this early because there is a lot of football to go, providing we don't lose next week of course. We tried to play ball last night despite bad conditions, but the final ball or out decision making was lacking all night. O'briens delivery was good, however I thought he was too deep. I though Quinn and O'brien should have been switched in the second half, quinns niggling with their no 3 coupled by their right full tiring may have benefitted us more. I though Josh should have been left on, although tiring he always looked for the ball and tried to make things happen. Impressed by the new lad Connolly good left foot, strong and a bit of drive. Could do with another player like him in the middle.

Massive game next week, can't be over estimated. Hopefully we can turn the last few weeks around. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say the managers career is on the line and hopefully for all concerned we can get a positive result. Between now and then we have to keep the faith, probably would have taken being 2 points behind with 8 games to go at the start of the year. Still in our hands.. Believe!!!

As disappointing a result as it was, it was a slight improvement from the last few weeks. We tried to play it on the ground for once, the full backs were constantly showing for the ball from Bennion and working it up through the middle. It was the first time in a good while that our wingers weren't bypassed and the first time we got to see O'Brien doing what we signed him for. Final ball, some very sloppy passing and not taking advantage from our set pieces is what cost us. If one of the through passes which O'Hanlon and Quinn mi**** worked we would have been through on goal. O'Brien's chance in the first was probably our best chance. Very impressed with the new lad, strong, good and the ball and has plenty of pace going forward. Was a bit confused as to why Doyle was brought on for Josh but in fairness to Doyle we played well when he came on. Wouldn't really say it was a sombre reaction to the final whistle, it was hard to hide our disappointment especially with the knowledge that Athlone had just won. Every player was clapped off the pitch in fairness.

No need to stress how important next weekend is, the momentum is all with Athlone but as someone said above being underdogs for once may just suit us this time!
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Surprised with the negative reaction from some on here. When you consider how rubbish we were v Mervue, I thought it was a huge improvement. Full backs getting the ball off Bennion and midfielders actually getting the ball on the deck instead of it flying over their heads were 2 major improvements. Our final ball was lacking sometimes, no doubt about that, but at the same time we had enough chances to win it. Sully could have scored a hat trick in the first 30 minutes or so, 2 good saves from their keeper and a poor effort that he put wide. O'Brien then missed a very good chance (similar to Sully's 2nd chance in the first half) right after half time. Des missed a good chance in injury time too. There was other half chances here and there but I was quite encouraged by the performance tbh, in comparison to recent weeks anyway. On another night we would have won comfortably. Wexford only really threatened from set pieces, where we continuously were extremely disorganised. Apart from that I thought our back 4 was very good, much more solid look to them, hopefully we can keep all 4 injury & suspension free for the run in now.
