FAI Cup final should be Saturday night?

I read that the cup final is on at 4.45PM on oct 24th. Presumably this is not to clash with second game of compromise rules series.

Sunday evening seems a daft time to have a soccer game. Fans from Waterford in particular won't be getting home till late and will be hanging round in Dublin most of the day.

If its going to be an evening game why not have it Saturday evening and both sets of fans can make a weekend of it and have a good night Saturday night without having to appear for work on Monday.

think its a bank holiday weekend like last year
"I don’t want to tempt fate, but Thierry Henry is not having one of his best nights." - RTE co-commentator Jim Beglin, minutes before TH struck the stunning winner.

never mind the game, most of us won't know our own names by a quarter to five

i really don't mind the time difference, i love the comp rules and will enjoy the few pints while watching the game.

BUT the start time will mean that a lot of pubs won't turn on the final as the utd v arsenal game will have already started
Ignore Max Power, he is no more, the future is Ron Burgundy. I'd love to be Ron Burgundy but they won't let me........

If it's going to be that late, they may as well make it a 6pm or 7pm kick off, so as not to clash with any other games. Disgrace that RTE effectively in control of the stupid makey uppy bogball game and the FAI Cup Final that the proper game of the day didn't get the priority.

I've always thought the Cup Final should be under lights, as it usually means a better athmosphere. I agree they should go the whole hog and have a 7pm kick off, either Saturday or Sunday evening would be ok.

    .................................................. ....

If the standard of football is better this year then maybe it'll be better next year ... i think that is what it is getting down to now.

Football on te deck is good .... over the top, mullaghing is not ..... Thats to story i think !!

A 4.45pm kick-off in late October practically means the night time anyway.

I don't see where the reference to the standard of football fits into this thread Face. Generally neutrals considered last year that Longford played the best football played in a cup final for many a day.
As regards the kick off time it is suitable for Longford certainly as the supporters and players can be back in the town around 10 o'clock that evening. This means that young and old alike can share in the occasion. I feel confident that they will be bringing the cup with them, and if the athmosphere is even half what it was last year it will be magic.
After all that we have Monday for recovery.
So eat your hearts out you sad trophyless individuals. As you troop your weary and tattered "We Were Great in Europe Banners" into your club boardrooms cast a glance at the empty cabinet in the corner, and wonder what silverware looks like. After that and for the remainder of the season, you can continue your scramble to pick up the crumbs from Shelbourne's table.

4:45 will be OK - like observer said, it will give people a chance to bring their kids to the match & get them home at a reasonable hour.
I wouldnt worry too much about the foreign game clashing for the TV (man ure v arse?) - the good thing about the recent run from Shel$ & the other TV games is that barstoolers have been enjoying watching eL teams & geting used to it, at the moment the stigma normally attached to the league is missing so I expect a lot of people to watch the final

Expect a big crowd too as the country teams always bring good support to the finals & there should be a good smattering of us locals turning out for the day as well.

I was thinking about most of the games on the box, for the most part they are poor (city fans will tell you that any time there is a camera there)
For a barstooler ... it cant be good to watch.
