Southport further eased their Conference Premier relegation fears at the expense of Forest Green Rovers' play-off hopes.
Karl Ledsham superbly headed home Blackburn loan man John O'Sullivan's cross to set the Sandgrounders on their way four minutes into the second half.
James Norwood was close to levelling when he hit the bar with a 12-yard lob.
But O'Sullivan secured the victory with a 20-yard right-foot shot into the bottom corner from Ledsham's pass.
And Rovers goalkeeper Sam Russell had to make a string of fine saves to keep the score down.
John Coleman's Southport are now seven points clear of danger, while Rovers' first defeat in four matches leaves them three points adrift of the play-off zone.
The once highly rated Adam Barton has dropped down a division to sign for Fleetwood Town until the end of the season.
John Egan has extended his loan deal at Southend; also until the end of the season.

Harry Crawford just came on for Barnet :O) im bored at work
Conor Henderson on the bench and un-used - What is the point in clubs taking lads on loan at dumping them on the bench ?
O'Brien, McGinty and Burke barely got off the bench during their loan spells either. Adam Barton just signed for Fleetwood Town and he didn't make the match day squad this afternoon. Hasn't been working out for a fair few of our young lads.
Injury curtailed Anthony Forde and Cian Bolger from going out on loan too.
From Falkirk's web site :PHIL ROBERTS DEPARTS
Striker Leaves By Mutual Consent
Falkirk FC has confirmed that Phil Roberts will leave the club by mutual consent with effect from Friday 28th March.

Ah yes. Promoted to the PL with Blackpool and then missed the entire season through an injury picked up against Tiverton in a friendly..
Just like Chris McCann missed pretty much the entire season in Burnley's PL campaign; and Thomas Butler missed Swansea's first campaign; and Paddy McCarthy missed pretty much all of Crystal Palace's current campaign; and Quinn, McShane and Brady's seasons have been ruined with injury; and Stephen McPhail missed pretty much the entirety of Cardiff's promotion season; and Martin Rowlands PL ambitions with QPR were curtailed by injury.
Weren't you saying Martin Rowlands wasn't up to scratch anyway a couple of weeks ago? If it was somebody else, I apologise but I thought it was you. I think we have been unlucky with injuries over the years but it's as much a reflection of our small talent pool as anything. On a per player basis, we're probably no more injury-prone than other countries but when you're pinning your hopes on such a small number of players you tend to remember the injuries more.
Very disappointing if they are found guilty.

Bit of a shock but O'Brien offered new contract at Millwall. Perhaps he will be afforded more opportunities if and when they are relegated to L1.
