    Waterford

Deserved win by the away side in Ferrycarrig tonight against the Youths who again never threatened to score for long periods. Youths started 4-5-1 with Graham, Clarkey, Gary, CJ, Jimmy, Eric, Crokey, Joey, Shane, Deano and with Tom up front. First half had relatively few chances but the Blues took two of them to set them up for a comfortable win. First chance of the game fell to Waterford on eight minutes when the Youths let a cross reach the far side of the box where Drohan hit it first-time off the bottom of the crossbar for 1-0. Next chance of the game occurred on 19 minutes and this time Drohan did well down the left and found Higgins in the box who was allowed to turn and smack it home for 2-0 to Waterford. Only half-chance of the the first 45 for the Youths was on 23 minutes when Tom was found inside the box but he couldn't connect on the turn. A minute later, Eric was fouled and had to limp off and was replaced by Brian Nolan who was back from Russia. Remainder of the half was uneventful with, on 35 minutes, Graham in the Youth's goal winning a tackle against an unrushing Blue's attacker, Frosty getting a yellow for a tackle and, with a minute to go in the half, Graham having a comfortable catch from a Blue's free-kick. 0-2 at half-time with Youths perhaps quicker round the pitch but much less effective.

Second half was more or less yellow card after yellow card and with Waterford going close a couple of times towards the end after Wexford pushed forward. On three minutes, Jimmy got a yellow for dissent and this was followed by yellows for Tom and GavKav for squaring up to each other. On the quarter-hour, Meade got a yellow for kicking the ball away. The useful Quilty then came on for Sullivan for Waterford. Two later, CJ got a yellow for a drag-back just outside the box. Midway through the half, Craig and Graham Delaney came on for Deano and Clarkey and Wexford still hadn't tested Sanders in the Waterford goal. With fifteen to go, Sanders made his first save of the match when he did well to push away a free by Joey from just outside the box. As Wexford pushed on, two chances fell to Waterford on the break, but one hit the outside of the post and the other hit the post and came out for a 2-0 victory to the home side.

Waterford had good options going forward with Drohan looking particularly effective. In contrast, Wexford don't have a discernible pattern of play at present with Tom very isolated up front and with the runners from midfield (Eric, Shane, Joey) generally running into cul-de-sacs from over-carrying and lack of options. Some of Wexford's efforts at playing the ball out from the keeper would also have the hairs on the back of your neck standing up. Would think that Shane needs to work out a more effective way of playing with the group of players he has. 2-0 to Waterford at full-time with about 350 at it. (As last weekend in July is one weekend I can't travel, can't make it to Harps next weekend).
