    Laptop foul up

    Good afternoon,

I am rubbish with technology. I break stuff. Basically my laptop slowed to a crawl and I seem to have gone in and cleared all the programmes off my laptop by untciking all processes. So on start up it doesn't now have a windows installation. There's no window's disk with the laptop that I can see.

Has anyone any idea how I could reboot all the programmes on the laptop? Any help needed for a complete tool.

    Thanks

What OS are you using? XP, Vista, W7 or 8? Laptop Manufacturer?

Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.

    I think it's Window's 8. Almost certain it is.

    That's a good start.

My computer suddenly lost a startup file the other day. No idea how it happened, but it did. Lost my windows disc, had to borrow a friends disk to bootup from.

That was a tough few days for me without a computer. Only so much a phone can do. Also the possibility of losing the vast amount of work done on my computer would be horrendous.

Try this...Reboot your laptop. As it's rebooting hit F8 a few times until you get into advanced boot options. Use arrow key to scroll down to safe mode and hit enter. Once booted into safe mode(if you can't get to this point, you're going to have to get a disk from somewhere or someone and re-install W7), hit start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore. Go with the recommended restore on the pop-up window or if you think the problem occurred further back than the date shown, select the 'choose a different restore point'. Pick a date and time that you think your computer was working, click it, then just follow the prompts and let it do its thing.

Thank you. Yer a gentleman. Somebody told me the first part of this and the need for a Windows 7 disk which I should be able to get somehow. I'll then follow your steps and see what happens. I know I haven't done anything terminal. I ticked off some system requirements and need to restore them.

I won't get around to this in the next few weeks but when I do I have something to follow so thank you.

You may not need a disk, unless it won't boot into safe mode. Good luck and let me know if it works out.

It won't boot into Safe Mode. I tried that a few times but no joy.

    Thank you though.

I'm currently bidding on an Emergency Reboot system on ebay with Windows 7 so hopefully I can sort this. Just cannot afford the meagre sums of 35 -90 pound to buy Windows again. Too costly a mistake on my part. I'll keep trying to sort this. I will update.

Just get ERD Commander for Win7
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Finally I've sorted this out. Went with a full factory restore in the end and it's worked out. As it happened a few months ago I'd bought myself a Seagate Expansion storage disc and pretty much moved everything over there from files and folders to installations so I'm able to pull those in from there and so after trying everything for weeks and weeks I got nowhere and the last option was factory restore.

It's also helped me decide my epitaph. 'I am an idiot' is pretty much enough to sum me up.
