Dunne and Hoolahan "90% likely to start" per the radio today.

Hoolahan in the holding role behind Keane? Or Cox/Sammon up front alongside Keane?

I think in a competitive game, the Faroes may provide more of a test than Georgia. We'll need to move the ball around faster than we did on Sunday. But we should still be good for the three points. They seem to have gone back a bit since Kerr left.

I'll go 3-0, with Keane to score 2.

its a real pity they didn't hold on for the points against Sweden at home that time. Going 1-0 up and all like in the second half.

Sweden aren't that poor. Maybe they aren't either, which is why think it might be a little closer. 3-1 or 2-0 for me.

I hope we set the stall out early, that holohan starts with keane and hendrick and whelan in the middle(no other choice for whelan). Put walters and mcclean out wide if needing a bit of height. Try and score early and win this one well like 4-0, we need the goal difference but also I would just like to see us play good football and that holohan is central to all that so he is undropable.

Do we need the goal difference?
I thought the results against the 'lesser' teams don't count if we finish level on points with Sweden or Austria.

Hoolahan "90 per cent likely" to start a competitive game? Whether it'll be behind the striker or in place of the ever-present Whelan, that's quite something.

Trap has said if Hoolahan starts he'll need to pick some wide players to help him out, which implies he's looking to use him as part of a two-man midfield.

I wonder though is it a risk starting with Richard Dunne since he hasnt played much football at all recently.

That implies playing Hoolahan is some sort of a handicap, causing great inconvenience.

Well he said the same thing about McCarthy before the Sweden match. I did notice Wes was a bit weak in a couple of 50/50s early on yesterday.

At least they were 50/50s, I suppose, as opposed to Whelan's 0/100s.

We could play Richard Dunne up front on his own and I'd still be expecting to beat these fellas.

I believe the Faroes threat presents as in the above video, with the slick underside of the banana skin crucially facing up and significantly reducing the risk of lubriciously inhibited friction that an inverted Cypriot or Albanian peel might generate.

    3 points.

    21-0 would help.

Could turn out to be a tough game especially if we are expecting and easy win after the Georgia game. ie the banana skin.

The games against the last-placed finisher in the group aren't counted in terms of the ranking of the second-placed teams throughout all groups for the purpose of the play-offs.

They are still counted for the ranking of teams even on points within the group, however.

    Tiebreakers

For FIFA World Cup qualifying stages using a league format, the method used for separating teams level on points is the same for all Confederations, as decided by FIFA itself. If teams are even on points at the end of group play, the tied teams will be ranked by:

    1. goal difference in all group matches
    2. greater number of goals scored in all group matches
    3. greater number of points obtained in matches between the tied teams
    4. goal difference in matches between the tied teams
    5. greater number of goals scored in matches between the tied teams
    6. greater number of away goals scored in matches between the tied teams if only two teams are tied

If teams are still equal then a single play-off at a neutral venue will be played. If scores are level after 90 minutes in the play-off, then two 15-minutes periods of extra time and (if required) a penalty shoot-out would determine the winner.

For FIFA World Cup qualifying stages using a home-and-away knockout format, the team that has the higher aggregate score over the two legs progresses to the next round. In the event that aggregate scores finish level, the away goals rule is applied, i.e. the team that scored more goals away from home over the two legs progresses. If away goals are also equal, then thirty minutes of extra time are played, divided into two fifteen-minutes halves. The away goals rule is again applied after extra time, i.e. if there are goals scored during extra time and the aggregate score is still level, the visiting team qualifies by virtue of more away goals scored. If no goals are scored during extra time, the tie is decided by penalty shoot-out.
