Sligo started slowly but seem to be coming into it a bit now.

Why is the kickoff so early if it's not on TV?

Was thinking the same. Due to the k.o. time i presumed it would be broadcast somewhere. Disappointing

Molde seem to be very good on the counter-attack, pacey.

Well they are there now, so it looks like that was sorted out (?) :

Trophy Manager - online football managment game - I like it - I think I'm getting obsessed with it though.

Reading the Extra Time updates talking about how well Sligo were doing, it made it inevitable really they'd concede right on half time.

Yes, the inevitable 'goal just before half-time'. I don't feel good about this one.

Flatlining in the league and out of Europe - Baraclough nervously clutching his neck, I'd say.

Can any Sligo fans give an indication of how they played today? From the ET live tracker, it seemed like they were making an effort to retain possession and creating space on the flanks like you'd have expected Cook's sides to do, but from what I've seen of Sligo this season they've reverted to a much more direct, English-style gameplan under Baraclough.

Too lazy to check it out myself so relying on fellow nerds:

    Where to start?

Something that can only resemble a 3-5-1-1 formation in the first half! 4-5-1 in reality.

In the first half, Rovers sat back, played deep - crazy stuff - Molde crept into game and knocked on door three times before well taken goal from their Nigerian striker, after school boy error from Evan McMillen was very ropey in first half.

Why Keane and Djalili didn't start is baffling.

    Why Henderson started is bizarre.

Why Elding managed to stay on for 90 minutes is ridiculous.

Why David McMillan was played as a right winger and taken off whilst Elding was kept on was pathetic.

In the second half having picked up pace, got Keano and Djalili on we got back to the old successful formula down wings, we were all over Molde but the problem is we have not attacking midfielder and lazy 'hit man'.

Dav played a blinder as did Peers.

Molde are nothing special, Rovers just gave them too much respect in first half, suckered with late first half goal and despite loads of 2nd half possession didn't have cut to get the necessary.

This game was just typical of Baraclough's ponderous style of play - tentative, safe and unambitious, in short boring - nothing like the swashbuckling days of Paul Cook, with goals a plenty.

We played quite well. Especially second half. First half they had more chances but most of them (including the goal) came from mistakes by us. Think it took us a while to realise they weren't that good and once we did were well able for them. They were nowhere near as good as the Ukranian crowd we played 2 years ago.

Still hard to see us winning over there mind. Needed to get a goal tonight I thought.

They were a lot more direct then us but their centre forward was brilliant at holding the ball up. Not having all our wingers fit at the moment is killing us. Djiali made a difference when he came on.

    Joey superb again.

The defense confused me a lot, seemed like you had three centre halves starting and then either Davoren or Conneely in midfield, which I thought would leave you vulnerable on the counter, which seems to have been what occurred.

That surprised me as well. From the ET reports, it seemed like Lynch and McMillan were bossing them on the right, but then McMillan was the man sacrificed when you were chasing the game.

That's what I don't understand about Sligo. You walked to the title last year, albeit with a few slip-ups that can happen when you play a relatively open game. This season, you have been much more predictable, which worked when Elding was bullying defences but after the first round of games teams started to figure you out. Even the game in Tallaght, I couldn't believe you got anything out of a misfiring Rovers side.

I suppose the Norwegian league is attractive for players like Chima looking to jump to a bigger European club, which is something Ireland has never been able to do. It's a pity because from the sounds of it, Molde aren't really that impressive. Sean South will probably revoke my LOI pass for this, but I hope you can give them a really good game in Norway and perhaps the more direct style can nick a goal or two.

Baraclough has chopped and changed, brought in players of questionable ability (in fairness Dajalili has come on lately and McMillan should work out if played in the correct position).

In the old days, Cook simply had the team playing their own game, terrorising defences, giving midfielders plenty of time, etc, - imo, most entertaining football in LOI by far.

In previous seasons, our problem was no quality striker.

Now we don't have midfielders of the quality of Richie Ryan and Quigley, along with playing a generally dull and disjointed brand of football.

That's not to say, we can't get a result against Molde, if and only if the players are permitted to take off the shackles, and Baracloughs sticks with the strongest 11 and plays them in the position they should - basics really but its not happening at the moment.

Any chance of Richie Ryan going back to Sligo now he's been told he can leave? I was surprised he didn't thrive at Dundee United, he looks the equal of any midfielder in Scotland outside of Celtic. I wonder if Pat Fenlon might pick him up.

Think we could get beaten by 2 or 3 out there to be honest.Molde weren't overly impressive tonite but id expect them to have a lot more possession and attacking threat in the 2nd leg.Baraclough's starting side was a joke and his substitutions were equally bad.And not for the first time.Very negative coach in my opinion,a million miles from the Cook days.

That's not a good sign. McMillan was played on the wing for a spell at UCD and at Pat's; was never anywhere near as effective as when he played up front (being a striker and all). Martin was experimenting (was st the start of McMillan's second season), but it didn't work, which is fair enough. Pat's and now Sligo going the same route is a bit silly. It sounds like wanting to get your best 11 players on the pitch without worrying about the formation.
