Derry 2-3 UCD
Now Derry 2 - 4 UCD
It's official, everyone is dropping points regularly at the moment. It's going to make the league very interesting at both ends of the table.
Good night for Dundalk and - potentially - Pats.
Great results tonight for UCD and Bray
stewards had to restrain shels fans from getting to the dugouts to get at Mathews following the match.
Horrible performance at the Brandy, both from ourselves and the ref.
Thought we poor most of the match. UCD played some lovely stuff, albeit a fortunate first goal.
Our goals were brilliant. Patterson with an effortless strike, McNamee with a lovely free.
Penalties; the first was harsh. Minimal contact, but defender came in from behind. Striker was always going to go down. No option but to give the red if the free was given.
The second penalty was outside. Not even on the line, properly outside. Awful decision.
Denied a penalty ourselves after that for a handball. Didn't see it myself, but obvious enough from reports.
Very disappointing stuff, especially since we didn't make use of Sligo's result.
I think that if UCD play like that the rest of the season, they'll be grand.
Very strange end to the game, didn't expect this type of events with less than 100 away fans, saw cops using batons at one stage.

Shels are going down, going down, Shels are going dowwwwn!
Saw Shels against Drogheda when up in Dublin about month ago, and even then one of the Shels fans had a go at Mathews from behind the dugout towards the end of the match. My opinion was that Shels were unlucky that night to end up 3-1 losers, even if it was clear that Drogheda had overall more talented players on their team. For me a regular at Galway Utd matches over the years it reminded me of a game in Terryland when two Drogheda fans were very abusive towards Mick Cooke from behind his dugout when they fell behind during a game against Galway. We all know that soccer can be very cruel at times and that these managers are getting paid, unlike a lot of GAA managers who sometimes also get very little thanks for their efforts, but the point Shels fans need to remember is that Mathews is not able to bring new players in until the transfer window. Maybe he is a poor manager and that a new man would turn this Shels squad into title/cups contenders like Drogheda are under Cooke, but I hope that the Shels fans/board know who this guy is before they drive Mathews out.

It would have been interesting if anyone got to him, I reckon Mathews could handle himself, the fan is probably lucky he didn't get too close.
Here on a technicality.
Wasn't really that fortunate; it was a nice move, your keeper made a decent save and we got to the rebound first. Benson did well to be following up and get to the loose ball first. Just good forward play.
Super goals, Patterson's in particular. First time, shooting across the ball to beat a keeper who had been utterly inspired up until then. Our goals were brilliant. Patterson with an effortless strike, McNamee with a lovely free.
First one was a clear penalty; if you come from behind someone like that, it doesn't take much of a clip to knock them over. Second was outside alright, though less than a foot outside; near enough to being on the line. But not a penalty all the same.Penalties; the first was harsh. Minimal contact, but defender came in from behind.
The second penalty was outside. Not even on the line, properly outside. Awful decision.
The handball bounced off the top of our guy's shoulder; he didn't make any movement towards the ball and I don't know how much he knew about it. And I don't know if top of the shoulder counts as handball either. There was a bigger call a few minutes previously when your guy went down after spinning off his marker, but it was the far end and I couldn't tell if he was fouled or if he went off balance.
Thought it was a great game overall; some excellent stuff played by both sides. And a great result for us given we had our fourth-choice keeper in nets, two defenders on the pitch and our regular centre-mid partnership both injured,

There was no batons used, typical foot.ie sensationalist guff. There was no aggro between the stewards and Shels fans. The reason they were there was precautionary and to stop Shels fans banging on the railings. I spoke to the head steward on that side during it all.
