Paddy Power have installed Derry City as favourites for this season's FAIreland Cup. Drogs are second, with Longford and Waterford 3rd and 4th. I would have thought it would have been (in this order): Drogs, Waterford, Longford and Derry? Waterford is a fantastic bet.

I suppose the logic is that us or Drogs have an equal chance of beating each other so its too close for either of us to be favourites to win it, with Derry being at home the bookies obvioulsy expect them to beat Waterford and in their eyes that makes them favourites as they are the team most likely to be in the final at the moment.I dont know though just guessing..was talking to someone working for paddy power and he says the odds are worked out by some computer in England..

A crowd of anywhere close to 4,000 for a team in the Cup Final would be poor, and Lansdowne would look crap - even if they pushed everyone down to the front like last year.
I'd say Derry v Longford would safely deliver the best crowd and atmosphere for a Final.

Derry would be the bookies favourite because of the amount of money that has been put on them. After Derry beat Galway, they were 14/1 to go on and win it. So, A lot of people in Galway seen it as a good bet after seeing there display in terryland. I have 50 on them at 14's myself

It's anyones cup at the moment because everyone is capable of beating everyone else.
The Town are playing only ok at the moment but the good thing is we are scoring goals and keeping it tight at the back but our form may have peeked just a bit early but each game is different so 2 more big cup performances and i'd be confident we can retain the Cup.
Drogheda have hit a sticky patch at the moment in the league and with the FAI Cup appearing to be the only silverware on offer to them this season it may be the only thing Paul Doolin can present to the board for all the money the club has given him.I don't think Drogheda will win the cup.
Derry inability to score goals must worry some of their supporters and the way they collapsed against Longford in Flancare last month would be a worry for them.On the other hand Kenny is due to win a cup so maybe this is his year but i hope it's not because he is a Judas F uck and that's nothing against Derry City FC or it's supporters just Kenny.
Waterford are such a Jekyll & Hyde team i just don't know if they have the bottle to win it.Reynolds seems to get 100% out of them but it just depends on which Waterford team turn up.
My conclusion is, i haven't a f ucking clue who to put my money on.
Flancare should be packed Sunday so looking forward to that.A Derry v Town final probably would draw the biggest crowd because from what i remember and was told there were 8,500 Longford Fans in Lansdowne for last years final and Derry always bring a good crowd and create a good atmosphere but whoever gets there i hope it's on merit.

Any 2 from 4 will see a decent crowd at the final.
There is a myth out there that we need Dublin clubs in the final to draw a decent crowd.
A Cup final will bring out the fans who don't go regularly. In fact given that Waterford haven't been in a final for almost 20 years and Drogheda for almost 30 that would really draw the crowds.
Anyway whoever is in the final it will be a showpiece occasion.

Agree it's a myth that we need Dub clubs for a big crowd, but the fact they've got little distance to travel certainly helps the attendance !
The key factor in crowd size for the final isn't about whether they're from Dublin or not, it's about the appeal/size of the club and it's surrounding area. A good number of people jump on the bandwagon for any final at any club, but to expect many thousands of people who've never been to a game before to suddenly crawl out of the woodwork for a Waterford or Drogs final has a degree of wishful thinking. Drogheda have been in the top 2/3 of the league all season, with a few weeks on the very top. That should have been enough to attract the glory supporters along, but they havn't appeared. A big name like Paul McGrath has been involved with Waterford all season, but that doesn't appear to have added much to their appeal in the town either.
I'm really not trying to diss the other teams in the semis, but I'm convinced a Derry v Longford final would bring by far the biggest crowd. If it was a Waterford v Drogheda final I'd honestly be concerned for the size of the gate and how it'd look on telly.

Im convinced that sundays match will be a draw. There is nothing to separate the two sides and I've a sneeking suspision it will go to penalties on the replay on Tuesday.
You will get better than 2/1 in any bookie for a draw when in actual fact in real terms the probability of a draw is (IMO) about 1/4. So even if this is the time that its not a draw your getting great value for money.
It would also fall into line with our present cup run

We could never afford to look beyond our next game, we can take nothing for granted, where as Derry and Waterford have had a relativly easy run to date and it has them dreaming of cup success but were emerging from their blind side. Dundalk, local derby and away so always tricky. Pats beat us twice at home in the league before that game. UCD away, Belfield, top of first, Doolos old club etc... Now its Longford away, champions, beat us twice at home and drew away plus we struggle to get a result against them but its time for a change and not a moment to soon either. Don't read too much into out back-to-back league defeats either, its all part of the master plan.

You're right Coltron. Battling against Shels - consistently this country's best team for the last 2 seasons - both home and away is as easy a run as you can hope for. I'd hate for us to have come-up against a really tough team like Dundalk....
