    Network connectivity issue

Right this has been bothering me a long time and I can take it no more.

The issue is that when I start my PC it fails to have any connectivity. Doesn't recognise wifi or LAN connections.

However this is resolved by a reboot.

The thing is I can't find the root cause of the problem and it's driving me spare.

    Any ideas?

make and model of your PC?
Operating System and version (Linux/Windows XP/2000/Vista*/7/8)?
    Internal wifi or USB dongle?
If it's a dongle, is it and the LAN cable plugged in when you start up?

anything else you think would be handy?

I hate Vista with an absolute passion. Serious amounts of passion I mean.

    Pc is a self build.

    Vista 64bit

    Internal wifi.

I don't have any physical lan connection ever.

I've searched for the root cause for nearly two years and nothing. You guys are my last hope.

Dump vista, seriously. It's gotten to the point that when anyone rings me for tech help and starts with "it's running Vista" I tell them to try any other operating system - XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 or get a live CD for any linux distribution (I'd recommend Ubuntu or Linux Mint) - because I'm not going to even try and resolve that particular mess

I like Vista but my sound is seriously acting up and I know it's either a software issue or the operating system. What would be the best (free) alternative, given that I've only ever used Windows and I like the layout/usability? I have tried Mac OS when my mam's Apple has been having problems but I really dislike it, so I'd prefer something as close as possible to what I'm used to.

Is that more up to date than Vista? I don't really pay attention to operating systems, I only am now because I have ruled out hardware issues.

It is indeed, it's much easier worked than Vista without the extra crap. Free up a lot of extra space for you too, it's a bit of a throwback to XP if you ask me.
Highly recommend it also BonnieShels for you rather than 8. I'd wait until the end of the year at least before getting 8, so all the bugs are worked out.

Well I was gonna do a rebuild with 8 ya see.

Though in the intevening period between my post and yours I actually looked at the upgrade to 7 to tide me over.

I was kinda hoping though before I do if anyone had ever even heard of this issue before?

I don't know about your own specific issue, but with my old Vista laptop I had endless problems with network connectivity, as soon as a switched it back to XP, no problems at all. Everything worked fine until the laptop itself gave in.

    I still miss that laptop.

Maybe it is one of those questions with no answer.

Just for the hell of it, have you tried this?

Turn off the power-saving option in the network adapter's properties.
To turn off the power-saving option

    • Open Network Connections by clicking the Startbutton , clicking Control Panel, clickingNetwork and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage network connections.
    • Right-click the connection, and then clickProperties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • On the Networking tab, click Configure.
    • On the Power Management tab, clear theAllow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click OK.
Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.

I feel a bit silly now. I was on Windows 7, I've done a full restore to factory settings and I'm still having the same problem. My speakers cut out randomly and it must be some sort of conflict, because it works again once I reload the program or whatever. Any ideas?
