Hunky Dorys Park is roughly a 25-30 min walk from Drogheda train station, with some of it uphill.

A right pain in the arse, had to walk it the other day.

You must be a slow walker!
I'd say it takes less than 30 mins (about 25mins at my usual pace) to walk from the station to Thomond Park.
If you haven't chartered your own shuttle bus, then you could walk down to the bus stops outside Dunnes Stores on Henry St (10mins) and get a bus from there.

If I was walking, I'd go down Mallow St, over Shannon Bridge and up Shelbourne Road.
    Fight the good fight!

Well it was a 15min walk from my old pad on Distillery Road (off Clonliffe Road). So I reckon 10 wouldn't be past it. My left foot works you see. I can keep the pace up.

This issue was particularly obvious to me when we used to play against Kildare County. We would hear the last train to Limerick leaving the station behind us about 25 minutes into the second half.

Going anywhere in Drogheda means climbing a hill

Their new proposed stadium will be a lot closer to the railway station.

You can get a train in the general direction of Drom, if you like walking a long way and also have a time machine that brings you back to 1935, when a train last went in that direction.

Athlone Town's ground is at a walkable distance from the station too. The last train is well before the kickoff but it's the only ground where you are able to catch the last bus to Dublin (2200) in time. Sligo has a bus leaving at 0000, 2 hours of waiting which could easily be spent at a pub. I am not sure but there is a Citylink from Galway at about midnight as well. All other grounds have no means of transport back to Dublin after the match if the kick off time is the usual 1945

Drogheda's ground is quite far from the station as already mentioned, and to make things worse the last train is at 2205. Giving that the final whistle is usually about 2135, you have to rush a bit to not miss it.

There's a Derry-Dublin bus at 23:00, which suits perfectly. Though ye'd feel fairly crusty getting into Busáras at 02:30 in the morning.

However, by the time it's built, train travel may well be obsolete.

But we'll be relying on myposts's space shuttle service again then. Trains... pfft!

30-40 mins?? The last time I did it I managed it between 10-15 mins.

You can get a bus to within a two minute walk of Finn Park...not that anyone really cares.

We got the GOBE buseirean bus back from Dublin Friday night at 12.30pm to Cork, Toilet and free wi-fi on board but as it was good Friday we couldn't go to a pub to wait, only about a hour in city center after getting the Luas back to the city. But we arrived in Cork at 3.30am so again felt a bit crustie like brandy above.

It's been a while since there were any trains running in Donegal, the Finntown one doesn't count.

    Wasn't always this way mind

Both Aircoach and GOBE run services all night between Cork and Dublin now, on the hour.

I wish these had been running years back when I couldn't make an away game unless we had our own bus going.

I'm going to the game this Saturday, train to and from Dublin.

KO is 3.55 - so game should be over around 5.40 or so, maybe slightly after. Last train back is at 6pm. Gonna be cutting it fine and I hope you're right about 10 mins!

Hope the away fans aren't kept back (in fairness they're usually not in Sligo). You're helped that it's pretty much all downhill from the ground to the train station

It could be 5.45 or even 5.50 if there's loads of injury time. 6pm is cutting it too fine.

Last bus is at 6.30pm. That should be safe enough.
