Thumbs up eL announce RTE league highlights show!!!

"I am pleased to report that the eircom League Television Committee has approved a deal with RTÉ for League coverage for the remainder of this season," Dooney wrote in the statement.

"The key element of the deal is a new 30-minutes League highlights programme which will run from Sunday 6th January 2002 until Sunday 7th April 2002 in a prime-time slot at 7:30 pm for the full run. The programme will run under the title “Sunday Sport”.

"I am happy that a regular and consistent slot at prime-time on Sunday evenings will greatly benefit the marketing and presentation of the League.

"The League has received guarantees from RTÉ of significantly increased League coverage in the programme from the present contractual agreement."

"In addition to the above new programme, RTÉ will also broadcast a Sunday Sport special on the FAI Cup second round on Sunday next, December 16th at 11:00 pm.

"There will also be live coverage of the Cork City v Derry City League game on Sunday December 30th, live coverage of the two FAI Cup semi-finals in March, live coverage of a yet to be chosen League title decider match on Sunday March 31st and the FAI Cup Final on Sunday April 7th.

"RTÉ has already broadcast three live eircom League games this season. I believe that this deal is an important step forward for the League in delivering the consistent prime-time television coverage that the League needs to develop and grow.

"The Television Committee will now look at the issue of summer football and long-term coverage of the League in the context of a more comprehensive deal for the transition season to summer football, which will run from July 7th 2002 to January 26th 2003, and beyond.

"The League is very grateful for the support given by Brendan Menton, General Secretary of the FAI to the joint approach by the Association and League to achieve agreement with RTÉ on League coverage prior to entering into negotiations on international match coverage."

Why are they calling it 'Sunday Sport' if it's an EL highlights show? Why not use a name with 'football' or 'Eircom League' in it?
Is it solely EL or will there be other sports in the 30 minutes as well?
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

    If there are ....

other sports in it .... then it just isn't good enough and Mr Dooney should know this.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

As far as i'm aware its a dedicated el programme with no other sports in it. Come on people 7.30pm is an excellent time slot & not many of us would have expected it. The Commish has publically stated he was looking for a dedicated eL highlights show so fair dues now it appears hes stuck to hids guns. He also said Brendan Menton was commited to sorting the league out before negotiating new international contract in the summer....

    Positive thinking folks

    Has there been any

    confirmation ????

Is the "New highlights programe" eL only or not ???

What is Mr Dooneys email address ???

Are we all agreed if it is not National League only, it is not good enough ???

If this is the case, is Mr Dooney trying to pull wool over our eyes ???

i believe it is eL only. fair dues to dooney, he hasn't been there long, but hes getting things done. the guy abviously cares and wants to make a diference, so we should back him to the full. we'v been whinging for years about wanting someone to get off their arse in merrion square, now it's happened, we've got to support him.
