Does anyone here have an idea when the FAI's current contract with RTE runs out?
Increased live games and MNS are the one thing the FAI have done well to get - losing it would be catastrophic for the PR of the league.
Will tonight's MNS will have highlights of this afternoon's Bohs/Rovers game? Bit of a joke if not, it'll be finished 3 hrs before MNS starts.

MNS available worldwide. RTE's live games availabe everywhere but UK (inc Northern Ireland). Bottom bit of that article

Pretty sure last week's MNS was Ireland only (unless the original broadcast) was worldwide).

This season is the last: http://www.rte.ie/about/en/press-off...agueofireland/
Trying to watch the March 18th show here:
http://www.rte.ie/sport/player/734/377260/
but it looks like it will take about 20 years for it to finish loading. Anybody else having this problem?
It's going at a normal fast speed for me. Try accessing it direct from the player: http://www.rte.ie/player/ie/show/10122768/
It's a bit sad that the RTE player selects Against the Head as one of the main recommended shows from today but MNS is nowhere to be seen on the front page. I have seen the odd live match featured on there though.
Isn't the RTEplayer still restricted to Ireland only, but the content on rte.ie is now worldwide?
On that link you added, MNS doesn't open at all for me.

Oh OK, I didn't realise that. I don't understand why they'd make it so complicated. In any case, there's no slowdown for me but I'm guessing the server is based in Ireland so it's probably just taking a longer time to reach you.
Just wondering is this a request in and around when MNS was first launched, when the initial contract was drawn up or was this another request in the off-season just gone? I mean if its still just the one request then that's grand and i'd just be worried about the next contract renewal talks and any subsequent requests.
I also still think Irish Football doesn't make enough of the fact its the domestic game and because of that, the lions share of resources (licence fee) should be devoted to it. The fact that RTE can generate revenue from showing football from other countries is irrelevant given their role as a National Broadcaster, they have a vested interested in domestic sport. I think their role in Irish Football could be described as abject failure and its demonstratively illustrated every single week when we see EPL games and highlights being shown. It actually serves as the perfect yard stick, the benchmark that should be matched on a consistent basis.
I know Irish fans have never accomplished anything, collectively i mean, and a million miles away from being able to fight its own corner, lobbying, or doing anything that could improve its situation but that's not to say their isn't a need for it. Maybe some of the supporters trusts could pick up the mantle on this.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
Is there any reason why the league doesn't actively court Sky Sports and the like? Sky show the Irish League and it's ****e.
Obviously restricted by current deal right now but they could court them for future (SKY already have deal for Internatonal games. Might be a bit restricting though as LOI games would have to fit in around the myriad of other footie SKY presently churn out.
Bohs V Shams 3.45 AM on a Tuesday night even the gardai have never gone that far.

It's important that it's on FTA TV imo. However, the FAI should be moving on to dictate amount of highlights shown at the next round of the contract negotiations, to take the programme on (doubt they'll be arsed to try and take the international team stuff out with erodes the time to the league too). It currently smacks of RTE paying lip service to the FAI paying lip service. And things like moving the FAI cup draws from 6.1 to MNS have actually marginalised the league even more imo.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
