    websites

the league is in desperate need a of a good news website the current ones are just copying out of the paper and telling people what they already know, no real news stories of such plus the amount of basic stupid mistakes is unbearable look at today’s example.

    from eleven-a-side

    Murray sounds rallying call

    September 21, 2004

Cork City captain Dan Murray has admitted that the club’s recent run of results has not been good enough but the defender has vowed that the players will do their utmost to win all their remaining matches.

The Leesiders are in turmoil at the moment as manager Pat Dolan is reported to be feuding with a number of the players including striker George O’Callaghan, who publicly stated that he regretted signing a new contract with the club.

Following an impressive run in the Uefa Cup that was halted by French side Nice, two months ago, City’s form in the eircom Premier Division has slumped and Murray stressed that the club were determined to do something about their form.

"We are more disappointed than anybody at our recent run of form and will be giving our all to try to win every game between now and the end of the season," said Murray.

City have only managed to pick up eight points from their last eight outings that has resulted in a meeting of the players and management team being held last night. Chairman Brian Lennox revealed that the discussion had gone very well.

I know that there have been a lot of rumours going around but we had a meeting which was positive and I believe Pat and I have a good relationship," said Lennox.

    The Answer: Foot.ie

Sure we have all the latest news here, dont tell me that journo's dont come sniffing around here for stories ! Anything that happens within a club weather it be signings, ground developments, roumers, bust ups etc..... it all ends up here !

True Roo (that rhymes!), but in seriousness, the eL does need a good website that looks good ands conveys information for both new and older fans of the league alike. I belive it is up to the FAI to get this going, or at least expand their current effort on the site.

A good website could work wonders, and maybe even attrac attention from abroad. You never know until you've tried...

we have two sites that are good for info although don't have the best layouts...

    www.soccercentral.ie
    www.irishfootballonline.com

and a third that IMO isn't as good for news but has a slightly better layout

I'd love to do a community-driven news site here on Foot.ie, but didn't we try that before?

Lads, i might suggest supporting the ones above before starting another one. If people feel they'd like to pitch in then i suggest contacting the webmasters of these sites and offering your services. Another site would only result in very fragmented pool of news sites.

I am not in a position to maintain soccercentral in an up to date manner as previously for a number of differing reasons and cannot commit any more time to it in my present circumstances.

If anyone wants to take it over the eircom League section they are welcome to contact me to discuss how it could be done.

I had also stopped doing "original" pieces before the present circumstances as I was p*issed off seeing them reproduced elsewhere from other sites, text alert services, aertel, newspapers and even radio without any form of acknowledgement.

Finally, I am not sure many realise the commitment it takes to maintain a site 24/7 356 days a year but if as above if anyone wants to take it over just give me a mail or a pm.

We need to start with getting a decent official EL site. Is it just me or did anyone else notice the EL seems to have become marginalised since the FAI rebranded and made a new site? Now please point out to me if I am wrong and may just be blind but all we get is a League table and some news whereas before there used to be fixtures and results, pages for all the competitions with histories and past winners, information pages for each clubs (e.g. phone numbers, address, role of honour, ground, bus routes, links to official site etc.). Where did all this go!? The FAI site used to be somewhat useful but I can't even find fixtures now. I brought this up with the webmaster over two weeks ago and got no reply. With the recent publicity and extra coverage the EL is getting due to Shels, Cork and Setanta why has it coincided with the FAI cutting back most of the domestic game info on the site? Also I work in a newsagents on Sundays and I scanned all the tabloids which claim to be Irish and apart from a single column in two papers the only paper that offered any mention at all of the EL was the Star on Sunday which had two pages and a column by Roddy Collins. They could do something to support the domestic game. I am not unreasonable and expect the first 6 back pages, but they could give a 2 page spread in the sport. It's been said a million times but coverage of the domestic game is so scarce no wonder it's tough to get people to games.

I dont think so either .... thats why it is good having make hands making that work light. It would be hard to work out at the start ..... Maybe a good way to go is the newbie just mails the news items to you and it is just a case of sticking it up then. Alot of work getting it sorted out but if you have a good team then it could be something totally cool and fully functional (kick the shíte out of anything else out there)

Maybe a good idea would be a submission form on the site so the punters can send info to you that way. Again ... there are loads of things you could do.

Where is Johnny Ward nowadays ??

Good points ...... but this is where an eL magazine could really take off. There is a void there, and it makes good business sense to jump in there.

    The FAI .... cúnts !!

    info@fai.ie

    eircomleague@fai.ie

    Andy.Needham@fai.ie

    Tell them that !!

What people tend to forget is that the FAIreland are not the eircom League. The League is just one of many including schoolboy, junior and intermediate albeit the senior domestic one yet they have more than 70% of the FaIreland website content
