Come on now lads, 3 cheers for Norn Ireland - they have given us plenty of great moment over the years, most recently they gave us a world record number of moments without scoring an international goal. And then that victory over St Kitts & Nevis where they finally turned the corner and rose like a Phoenix to get a point at the great fortress of Cardiff Arms Park! There is nothing stopping these boys from marching to Germany as bravely as they marching at the Somme.

You're very optimistic Michael. A bit like the Somme, I think the Northies could be lambs to the slaughter if they end up in Germany.

I really doubt a player who recently turned 29 is past his best otherwise players like Beckham wouldn't be going to Madrid for £25m.

Teams seem to be paying good money for a player who "was average at best". Arsenal paid £2.5m, West Ham paid £5m (record fee received by Arsenal at the time) , Wimbledon paid £7.5m (record fee paid and received at time), Celtic £6m.

Also, I think you'll find that Sutton, Hartson and Camara all had bids for them by premiership clubs before they moved to Scotland. Juninho had clubs waiting in case the deal fell through. Marcio Amoroso had interest from about 5 premiership clubs but held on for Celtic, MON didn't offer him a contract. Boumsong rejected Liverpool. There are obviously more which I don't know about.

No matter how much you hate Celtic and how lowly you rate the SPL, stop being so blinkered as to take bias against their players when I have provided stats to prove he has been a success in the premiership.

Half to disagree with yer there on the attitude. In all my year's of following Ireland I can't say I've smashed up any city's around europe or witnessed any fellow Ireland fan's smashing city's up.
Plus I like to have a good drink with the local's when i'm on tour not a good punch up.

I'd even disagree with yer on the football bit as well. Come to think of it we're not Brazil either, we just draw with them.

I would say that all those quoted would be in with a shout of getting in our first 11.

    Giggs - no question.

Bellamy/Earnshaw vs Morrison/Connolly/Doherty - I would take either of the Welsh pair ahead of those 3 options, though how they could team up with Robbie is another matter.

Speed vs Holland/Kav/Kilbane. A man of that experience, and no shortage of skill would be in with a decent shout of a first 11 spot, although nearing the end of his career.
I thought you were off the drink Ronnie?

Hartson is Wales' first choice striker and he would form a superb partnership with Robbie. I left Giggs out because we have Duff but I suppose you could fit the 2 in somehow. If we had the Keane of old maybe Speed would be a good choice but since Keane has transformed into a holding midfielder I think Savage would be a better option. So I stick by Hartson and Savage and if you could fit Giggs in stick him in too.

Off topic - Willo Flood scored 1 and Macken scored 2 (taken off at h/t) for Man City tonight. Still playing. Morrison and McGeady scored too. McGeady set up one or two (mind you we were playing Falkirk ).

C'mon, give the lad a chance. He's talking football at least. He hasn't insinuated that Irish is dead, Mary McAleese is British nor accused anyone of having a library with every chucky publication in print with a drunken, incoherent post. His other post on all these onion-in-their-hankies-Paddies supporting English teams may well hit a sore spot with some people. Tough! He's got a point as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah right, with Duffer, Reid, Kilbane and Co. you think that ponce Giggs is still up to the challenge?

It's all I can do to keep sane with some of the crazy shíte thrown about on here. Man Yoo and Seltic fans seem to be in love with their players.
Be it John O'Shea, Ryan Giggs or John Hartson they want them all in the Irish team. Have they any ambition!?

By the way, didn't John Hartson want to play for Ireland when he was called up by Wales?

Absolutely. He's a bit of a ned by all accounts. Conor74 posted as much here.

I've no idea about him wanting to play for Ireland btw. I'm sure there are some among the Celtic number who would like to believe it though.

You're too busy indulging Marsellus Wallace on ourweeminds, aren't you? I see he hasn't forgotten me. Dunno about this 'clinic' he mentions for us 'bigots' (YAWN!!!) but I know he needed a visit to another sort of clinic after his first visit on here. Send him (and all the other toss-pots there) my regards!

Peader, I think you're the one with the bias mate. Hartson would walk into our team. Why are you dismissing the stats I provided?

I saw Hartson play for Arsenal, in the flesh, live, with my own two eyes.
    He's rubbish!
I'd have Gary Doherty up front before him.
You quoted transfer figures there in some bid to impress me.
We've all seen players sold for stupid money when they clearly weren't worth it and Arsenal are great at selling average players for a tidy profit (Anelka being a fine example).

I don't think you could have contradicted yourself any more than you just have.

Yes, on a once off but not 3 or 4 times with the price raising each time, except for when Celtic bought him as Coventry were relegated and needed to get him off the wage bill. MON has also admitted that Hartson has already paid his transfer fee back with his goals.

If I give you up to date stats you'll just dis them because they're from the SPL. If you want to know, he has scored 51 goals in 64 league starts for Celtic which is the exact same ratio as Larsson's 178 in 218.

Are you suggesting that Andy or Stephen for that matter, Kilbane and Co (whoever you lump in that category) would keep Giggs out of the irish side if he was available?? Obv too fond of those green blinkers...

Im no Man Yoo fan, but I am Celtic fan (note spelling for future ref ) However I'm a footie fan and though Giggs, IMO has never consistently produced the goods. He has produced it on enough occasions over the last 10 years to compete with KK for a spot in our first 11!!. Me think it is you who is throwing around the crazy ****e!

Thats right dismiss eirebhoys stats for being 3 years old because you saw Big John in the flesh 6 or 7 years ago... what an excellent point

Well, there's many here who disagree Peadar, and you know I'm one of them. He hasn't looked quite the part yet this season, but the figures tell the story. Junior and eirebhoy have you cornered.

Andy Reid and Damien Duff are better players for Ireland than Giggs is for Wales. They would get in ahead of him everytime. Forget about Giggs in his glory days. They were 5/6 years ago. Stop living in the past.
Typical Celtic fans. Not only can they not pronounce the word "Celtic" correctly nor can they spell the word "boys" correctly but they're obsessed with history. Why don't we revert back to the days when N Ireland were the powerhouse on the Emerald Isle. I may have blinkers on but you guys are facing backwards.
