I love the 'Call Me Maybe' tune being used on RTÉ this year.
Johnny - Sligo's answer to Tagore and a man who dedicated a phenomenal amount of energy over several decades to the good of the Bit o' Red. A star was the least we could do for him.
Give me a star beside any teams name/crest over an astrix any day.
Call me maybe......Should be a chant in there somewhere if not already

Is Sligo V Cork game Live on Sat?
I'm fairly sure it was an Umbro idea for clubs to start wearing them "Italian" style. There's certainly no official LOI star for 10 titles
I loved when Rangers & Celtic had their star battle. Rangers went with 5 stars to signify 50 league titles, so Celtic responded with a 'platinum' star for the European Cup.
Aberdeen had 2 to signify their two European trophies (one of whcih was the Super Cup).

Presumably RTE will want to show the English highlights in their usual evening slot.
When Saturday Comes ran a funny article a few months back I think, mentioning all of this nonsense with clubs self awarding stars. Funny one re Juventus when they were stripped of 2 Seria A titles in mid 2000's, so they lost some of their stars on their shirt, but added in a cheeky line in latin under the crest '2 more were won on the pitch'
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), first Irish club to win points in a group stage in Europe (2016).
Just came across the following attached to Dan McDonnell's piece on Patrick Bamford: http://www.independent.ie/sport/socc...-29188792.html
Elsewhere, RTE has secured the free-to-air broadcast rights of Ireland's Euro 2016 and World Cup 2018 qualifiers.
The deal is part of a European Broadcasting Union (EBU) agreement which allows 30 countries to broadcast their national team matches on free to air stations, in addition to radio and digital platforms.
Discussions will continue about the future of 'Monday Night Soccer', the flagship programme for the League of Ireland.
When RTE announced the extension of their interntional rights from 2010 to 2014, it accompanied the expansion of League of Ireland coverage, including the introduction of 'MNS' and a gradual increase of live games.
But a separate discussion will now take place about the national broadcaster's plans for covering the domestic game.
Completely agree with your analysis, by the way. Can only be a bad news for LOI coverage.
The star was kept away from the crest when Jako were the suppliers but since Umbro came in it has been made smaller and put over the crest. Which in my opinion takes away from why it was put on the shirt in the first place as it was unique and original. Now it could mean anything as every poxy club has a star over their crest. I'm not supprised though.
5 million figure plucked from the FAI's ass no doubt.
The TV rights for frinedlies are still to be agreed. Assume MNS and live LOI games will be lumped with that.
