    Europol Match-Fixing Investigation

Is anyone watching the Europol press conference on match-fixing in football?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21321062

The findings allege that at least one Champions League game in England was subject to attempted match-fixing, while World Cup and Euro qualification matches are also under scrutiny. Surprisingly, the money doesn't seem that big in relative terms:

Europol's investigation says criminals wagered 16m euros on rigged matches making a profit of €8.5m. The highest single bribe was €140,000.
380 games suspect of match fixing by Europol / 425 match & club officials, players & foreign criminals from 15 countries suspected

Most of the games involved German teams it seems, but that doesn't mean Bayern's 2-0 loss to Manchester City is the game in question.

Why would Europol want to deflect attention from performance enhancing drugs?

    Phrased it wrong.

What I'm getting at is I look at aertel and the match fixing is the top story, while there's not a dicky about the doping.

I'd say that's as much because Irish (and English) journalists can't speak Spanish, with the exception of Miguel Delaney, Sid Lowe and a couple of others.

So the Debrecen keeper was allegedly bribed to leave in three goals at Anfield and Liverpool still only won 1-0. I thought Ray Darcy was reading out a joke text when I heard it this morning

    Liverpool v Debrecen 2009

I checked up the stats of the game. Liverpool actually had nine shots on target - they must have been lame enough attempts if he felt it was too obvious to leave them in.

"They claim that the Debrecen keeper Vukašin Poleksic was bribed to concede at least three goals but text messages between ‘fixers’ bemoaned the lack of adequate finishing from Liverpool players that prevented the custodian from conceding the requisite tally."

I thought the issue was that the keeper refused the offer, but didn't report it to the authorities at the time?
