If what Nah Nah Nah Nah is saying is right, the FAI decided that final would not be in Drogheda, but would be staged at the ground of the other 2nd semi-final winner.
Of course the Showgrounds or Tallaght are both far superior to Honky Dorys, but the FAI deem HD Park as suitable for league games and all other league cup games. As always with the FAI revenue potential wins out over sporting fairness.
I dont have a major issue with this in League Cup as the final was always played at one of the finalists grounds after it was no longer a 2 legged final. Im assuming that had Derry been in the final that the Brandywell was a fair option and could have been considered, once they were out the choice was always going to be Tallaght or Showgrounds. As said my only gripe would have been if Tallaght had been nominated for a Sligo v Drogheda final, which while being neutral was a move away from the norm. Ive not been to Ferrycarrig to know what it is like in relation to HD Park and whether it was any more suitable in 2005. All ifs and buts i know...Drogheda werent bothered last year by the final venue but suffered badly in the Setanta Cup so who knows.
The sooner clubs gets their grounds up to tallaght standards (cough in another life time) the better. Cork and Sligo there or there abouts i suppose.
The decision as to where the final would be was made by a draw and the winner of Shams/Sligo match came out of the hat. End of story.
I'm afraid not. Drogs were told that the final would be played in the ground of whoever won the sligo/shams match. Before that match even took place. There was never an option for it to be in Drogheda or anywhere else. That's is the truth.
Maybe there was a toss in the past but this year the FAI decided without any consultation.
A draw where the outcome was known in advance perhaps? Works for everyone.
#NeverStopNotGivingUp
They were extra stands put in Ferrycarrig that year. Great set-up it was too.
If the final isn't at a neutral venue, it really should be a coin toss. If a match is good enough to hold a league match, it's good enough to hold a league cup match.
The FAI presumably prefer Tallaght as they think they'll get a bigger crowd and beside it's got decent media facilities. It's understandable, but it's unfair.
Have you ever won the treble?

Nice dive for a penalty. Helps playing finals at home.
Shams 1 Drogs 0
Dundalk 1 - "the worst team to ever play in the premier" 2 :D
Some nice views of the Dublin mountains on the TV coverage as the ball is spending more time in the air than on the ground.
Big miss by Alan Byrne, should be 1-1
Drogheda putting Shams under a lot of pressure at the start of the 2nd half.
Fabulous dive by Ryan Brennan to get Oman booked, a family tradition.

A howler of a backpass from O'Conor gifts the second goal to Shams.
Game over?
Oman sent off for two harsh yellow cards, Drogheda finally have something to celebrate.
McNally lucky to only get a yellow card. As the last man, that is usually a red.
Should be a penalty for Drogheda, Shams would have got the decision.
Sutton going for yellow til Prendergast talked himself into red.
