Scousers don't show up at Liverpool or Everton games and Milwall don't show up at the New Den ?
I read it as they don't turn up at England games. A lot of Millwall might be barred.

On in the UK were I am, one of the rare chances I get to watch them on TV as opposed to a stream which is nice.

Could possibly watch the match in a local pub but that might not be too wise especially after recent events in Woolwich.

Why would 'Woolwich' be an issue?

Hopefully times have changed, but a good historical account of that infamous night in 95.

Was there fighting on the South Terrace? And was GSTQ loudly booed? It was definitely booed, but only from a section of the South Terrace.

the booing of their anthem was accross most of the stadium from my memory i'm afraid. some of our fans didnt cover themselves in glory that night. from a good 30 mins before ko there was anti english stuff coming from where i was standing on the south terrace.

the biggest threat i faced was from this Irish moron with an "up the pope" scarf. he and his mates were attempting to start the usual biggoted tripe that a certain element of our support likes to indulge itself in. when i told them that they were as bad as those rioting english fans that night he went to punch me and had to be restrained.

I was on the north terrace and heard nothing coming from north end. The 1990 game was far worse from our fans. That was pure poison.

maybe it was mainly the south terrace. its recorded here at about 45 secs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN-voEwlrko

am going on wednesday and really hope that the morons among our supporters keep their pathetic songs and chants to themselves.

    Why? What happened in 1990?
    And that video is 1995...

Booing that dirge is all the Scots would do, whilst any 'pathetic songs and chants' is down to the experience of the individual as to how they view our neighbours in any political perspective. Trust me with that shower, 95% of any negativity won't be coming from Irish people...

Neither Everton or Liverpool have any type of real presence within the English support. To be fair, because Liverpool is such an immigrant city (predominantly Irish and certainly a majority Catholic city), as can happen in such cities, there would be a significant but vocal minority that are drawn to the Orange Order/Conservative party/BNP and in extreme situations the offshoot of this would be elements being drawn to the UVF or Loyalist groups, as well as the EDL. Other scousers used to travel with England back in the 70s/80s knowing that when the inevitable riots kicked off in European cities, there were plenty of shops that could be robbed.

I was living in Liverpool in 1988 and you could just as easily have been in Dublin. In all of the pubs around the city, the Scousers were cheering for Ireland. Of course, that was at the height of Maggie's tenure in office, so your average Scouser didn't feel too English, but I'm sure it hasn't changed all that much since, despite the city's gentrification.

I went to a few games at the Old Den in the 80s when I lived in London and it was one menacing place The Millwall fans used to sing their version of the Teddy Bears picnic song to away fans that was pure evil.

The biggest annual Orange march in England now takes place in Southport on the fringes of Merseyside, I believe.

Because there's a lot of anti-not-English feeling knocking around after it, lots of attacks on Muslims, and the people who attack random Muslims in revenge for an attack by specific Muslims are the kind of idiots who associate all Irish people with the IRA.

Very muted build up to this game and I would be very surprised if there is any trouble. England have been out of the top 10 teams in the world since around 1991. 1996 Euro semi's had a lot to do with home advantage. They might just be about to improve but they might not. We are going to play 4-5-1 with Long upfront so I am going for a boring 1-1

Unless there's a large presence of Irish muslims at the game, even those dimwits can tell the difference, surely...

it was a sporting occasion and they should have just kept silent and then sang our own anthem louder than ever. instead we let ourselves down with pathetic booing and moronic sectarian singing

Perhaps they just noticed the hostile atmosphere coming from our esteemed visitors and decided to respond in kind...
