Just to address this point - js79 is referring to a report I wrote on an FAI game recently. I posted a link to it on the Facebook forum in order to increase the readership. Instead I was subjected to abuse from the goalscorer on the day and at least two supporters of the winning side. None of their comments dealt with the content of my report. Much like Zizou's comments earlier, their intent was to merely to diminish and belittle me in whatever way they could.

Like you say, I'm a neutral. I genuinely have no affiliation to any club. But that was hard to stomach. Classless, pathetic, moronic behaviour.

Exactly what was said was more to do with insisting that the Pike players pick up their game and play harder and tougher. It was said in the heat of the moment and by a man with several times your knowledge on this game and with far more class than you could ever hope to have. For a jumped up wanna be reporter such as yourself to have a pop at him is laughable to be honest. Take your anti-Pike agenda and stick it where the sun don't shine.
Saying a thing in the heat of the moment is one thing, telling us about his knowledge and past class is pure foolish, not sure who shouted in these comments but all he is showing is a total lack of knowledge and class, clowns like these should be banned from grounds.

I cannot comment for anyone else or their recent actions towards yourself, but my intention in this instance was simply to give another perspective and alternate response to a particular segment of your report. I didn't comment on the other 90% of it. As for 'diminishing' you, as you rather over dramatically put it, I've neither the time nor the energy for such trivial pursuits. Perhaps, on reflection the last couple of lines of my initial reaction were in poor taste. I am retracting them now.
If you choose to be a match reporter, be prepared to have your opinions and viewpoint challenged regularly, especially when they address sensitive and controversial aspects of important games. I find for the most part, your reports to be informative and interesting reading. However, I do find you’re dispensing of tactical advice to experienced managers with superb winning records, a little naive.

I'm looking forward to a great weekend of football for Limerick, and that's the last I'll say on the events of the weekend just gone.

First of all, I appreciate your retraction.

Secondly, I am quite comfortable with having aspects of my reporting challenged. Indeed many of the respondents to this report have picked me up on things in the past and I've engaged with them.

Thirdly, if indeed my "tactical advice" is so "naive", would it not be easy for you and your fellow club members to pick it apart? Why has the content of my criticisms never been challenged? Why is the response always personal? And why should a so-called "superb winning record" preclude an individual from the receipt of criticism?

Just to paraphrase you, if he's going to choose to be a top level junior manager, he should be prepared to be challenged when he makes a perceived error. And I'm sure he is. It's his apostles that seem to be extremely uncomfortable with it.

As funny as I found that, if you knew me personally, you'd know, an 'apostle' is about as far from the truth as possible.
I'll fill you in on the joke sometime.

Credit where it's due lads. Alan gives exceptional reports on local games. Where else would you get such an in depth report on a junior soccer game. Local papers carry about 4/5 lines on each. Looking at that pike team and allowing for the fact that Mullins and tierney were missing, this is one of the weakest pike squads in last 10 years. 3 or 4 of their squad at the moment wouldn't have been near it in the recent past. Kavanagh is a huge loss, Barry and Moloney are not the force of old. Similar to united though they are always competing in the big competitions at the end of season and local sides fear them

Excellent reports?Hartnett took no pen.Tommy Heffernan didn't come on right full.and Molloy was not the ref
As for the worst team in 10 years.Mj final. Semi final of FAI and a big shout in winning the league not bad for worst team in 10 years.

Feel free to correct any errors if you wish.

One of the players involved on the day has already been in this thread to vet the report. He found two minor errors which I've corrected, one of which was the referee naming slip.

Tommy Heffernan (if that's indeed who it was - I may have the name wrong) did indeed come on at right full in the first half, in place of Wayne Colbert who was shifted to the centre instead of the withdrawn player Conor Moloney.

And I'm 100% sure that Keith Hartnett took and missed a penalty before half time, unless one of the other Pike players is a really, really good mime.

I've never claimed that I'm going to get every detail right. There are no replays in junior football. I would hope that my reports are judged by those who read them based on the actual analysis contained within rather than the minutiae.

Then again, based on your "contributions" on here, that might be expecting a bit much of you.

    hospital vs carew park
first spot in the lawson cup final up for grabs this saturday night and this tie seems to be a mouth watering affair with both clubs having great seasons so far. hospital to be fair will have nothing to loose come kick off and will throw everything they have at a very good carew team, having won their division 1B league, in thier league cup final, beating many teams above team fairview and regional and ran jansboro close loosing 4 3 hospital will have nothing to be afraid of. they have two strickers in barry ryan and sean o brien who have scored over 70 goals between them and have very good midfielders in keith o connor and chris dineen who will all pose a threat to the carew defence and i have a feeling it could be a tough day for mark keane and his defence. on the other side of things both grant and connery will be very hard to stop if they start running at the hospital defence and it will be up to the experienced head of ken o loughlin to put a stop to these top class strickers. on paper carew are most certainly the stronger team but i have a feeling hospital have a good chance to take carew all the way, it wouldnt be the first time they over turned a premier team.
prediction: 2 2 full time could go either way in extra time

With all the attacking talent on show last night it was fitting that 3 defenders scored the carew goals.credit to hospital for putting up a brave battle last night.very physical and young team, you can see why they gave so much trouble to the teams in the Lawson and other cup games.
