Yes good shout. Cork usually have a great crowd if they open at home, so would imagine they will take hundreds to Limerick, esp with the Thomond factor. Same for Sligo, not too far a journey, well for them I suppose. And Rovers will take over 500 to Oriel Park.

I'd say we might get close to 3k for our game, mabye 3,500 in Derry, and I really cant predict the Thomond game, could be anything from a moderate 2k to 5? Who knows.

Good to hear homes crowds of 3k expected in Dundalk for the new season as they were down to about 500 for the end of last season. New broom and all that

Now now Dodge, dont be at it, we got just over 1,500 for the last home game, albeit a play off, but will admit less than 500 for the previous proper season game v Bray. First game always generates a good crowd, Rovers visting even better, new broom indeed, but will it last..............probably not

I feel these fixtures simply detract from the real drama in the LOI- licensing. We need a marketing campaign to explain to the world how dramatic and awesome licensing is and we also need to find a way to monetize that. WWE would have nothing on it.

"And it's the FAI, fresh from beating GUST unconscious in the locker room, with the steel chair to the back of Limerick's head! But look at this, Limerick are using their signature move (legal action) and they bounce back and pin their assailants!"

It is difficult to predict the crowd that will be in Thomond. There will be hype in Cork as usual and Limerick like a bandwagon even more than ourselves. We brought about 700/800 (guesstimation, totally open to correction) to Limerick in our first year in Div 1. We'll surely manage 1,000 in Thomond. I'd say Limerick with proper hype could pull 3,000 themselves. But, as you say, it's hard to predict.

How many showed up for the cup game a couple of years ago between you two? That was in Cork though I think.

Possibly...if the weather is good and it isn't on TV.

Tbh rather unusually when it comes to people judging what they brought i think you have underestimated it id say it was very very near if not over 1000.

I was initially going to say 1,000, but I allowed for your theory myself

It's ok this bandwagon should be hanging around outside Thomond Park come the end of the Heineken Cup pool games.

Do clubs get any say on games being moved for Televised reasons?

Word going around that our match could be moved to Sunday evening instead of Friday. It will be a disaster. A lot of Cork fans will probably change their minds about traveling, people in Limerick will decide to watch it on telly before going to see what the team is like and they are going to run it tight with junior soccer matches that kick off at 2.

I don't think clubs have any discretion. Sligo regularly get annoyed about being moved to Saturday afternoon. As far as I know, the participation agreement boils down to "you play when we tell you to play."

Madness if they go a head with the move. A potential 3,000 crowd could more than likely be cut by 50%.

To be honest, I'd say most people would still go for the novelty of Thomond Parks first LOI match.

If it is televised I suppose there is two ways it could possibly go:

1: The match is televised in front of an average crowd but we win with a good performance and it attracts more people out that saw the game on telly

    or

2: It brings the attendance down to an average crowd, we get beat and it has an even bigger hit on the next home game (UCD).

We need to build momentum with crowds and I think televising it will have a dampener on it. A game televised later in the season when we have possibly attracted a few more regulars wouldn't have as bad a hit.

Ye get no choice. As Charlie said its very annoying. We had very few games on a Saturday evening last season due to TV.
