This was posted up on our message board. Really interesting piece of history.
Bohemian FC v Athlone fC
Easter Monday April 24th 1916
Held up in Mullingar owing to Sinn Fein Rebellion in Dublin till Wednesday when this photo was taken. Had to motor to Dublin where most of us had great difficulty in getting home
J. Nelson/Nolan??
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
No direct buses anywhere back in those days, you see.
Does that mean the match was held up in Mullingar, or that they were held up in Mullingar getting to the match?
My reading is that the Athlone team were held up in Mullingar getting to the match.
Seems to be J.Nolan too.
Fantastic bit of memorabilia.

I picked up the match report for this game today. A number of the Athlone team would go on and win the Cup in 1924.
