    St Pats and Kelleher

How screwed would Pats be if he was to pull the plug on his funding or are they relying on him that much?
Considering the size and quality of their squad this year it couldn't have come cheap and their crowds are dismal despite a good season challenging for the league and cup double.
I would be interested to know what genuine Pats fans thoughts are and this is not an exercise in winding people up.

Pats are no doubt benefiting from Bohs and Shels being relatively knackered financially so whatever they have to spend goes further than it would have previously. Dublin is the biggest player pool in the country by a mile and Shamrock Rovers can't sign everyone.

That said, they'd suffer if Kelleher pulled out. But then there isn't a club in the country that isn't relying on a small number of people.

Doubt that squad is as expensive as previous years tbh.
Yeah man, they call gambling a disease, but it's the only disease where you can win a bunch of money.

Did Pats not radically cut their budget to more or less break even under Kenna?

I thought Kelleher more or less did pull out? When they left most of their squad go at the end of last season or the season before.

AFter 2008 season, the budget was more or less halved. Johnny Mac resigned over it (hence Kenna coming in). its been reduced significantly since too

Kelleher can't invest in Pats as a couple of his companies are in NAMA. So even if he wanted to, he can't. Thats not to say he isn't involved. Far from it, he (and his people) are still very active. It just means the budget is tighter and is at least somewhat based on revenue

As Mr A said, our budget doesn't have to be much to be the 3rd biggest in the country now. We couldn't compete with the likes of Sligo or Rovers last season (we lost Rogers, North and Kavanagh for example) and I don't think we will next year. Of the players we picked up most couldn't get deals elsewhere. We got lucky with John Russell's Canadian job falling through and Rovers having 10 midfielders so they left Chambers alone. Browne was with Waterford. Clarke released by Sligo. All the Bohs lads were on nothing with them in 2010. Dundalk delighted to get rid of Bolger.

Not being funny but our 2nd and 3rd strikers are Vinny Faherty and Anto Flood. They're definitely not bank breakers.

Do Pats own McDowells now or are they running it at least?

They lease it out and its run by the leasing company (ie the income for Pats is rent only)

Ah right, cheers Dodge, wasn't sure exactly what the position was.

Dodge (or anyone) is ownership of ground and/or McDowells in Kellehers name ? I thought he had stopped funding Pats direct a couple of years back (or indicated a timescale for doing so) and that his contribution was the ground and rental income from McDowells.

Bit off. The ground is owned by the club.

The club (and ground) is owned by Kelleher. its not in his name, per se, but rather in the name of the company behind Pats (the company has existed for the past 20+ years - Kelleher purchsed this company in 2007)

Mr Kelleher is still chairman, and is still active within the club (for example admin salaries are paid through one of his other companies). He still attends games. He just doesn't invest money into the football side of it (as in, we've to be self sufficient from normal revenue streams)

Saw Kelleher in the directors box at the Pats v Cork game during the summer. I think that the Banks will have to try and recover as much of the money that they gave out to him. Therefore if one of his companies own the ground, then they are likely to put it, along with the pub up for sale. If the Dublin property market starts showing signs of recovery then there is no reason why some developer would not buy it.

Thats balanced by the fact tht if the market improves his own affairs will greatly improve too

And without being too facetious, he's still doing OK. There's a myriad of companies and in terms of realisable assets, Pats would be way, way, way down the list

A soft landing is predicted, or so I've heard.

Pat's fans, of course, are well used to wearing their green jerseys.
