I'm thinking about starting a thread entitled "Tommie Hoban". Too rich?

There was an article in the Examiner about him

Hornet Hoban so proud to wear the greenl

While some Englishmen who declared for Ireland over the years may have openly admitted to having tenuous links to their ancestral home, there can be no questioning the agenda of Under-19 captain Tommie Hoban.
"My mother was born in Dublin and my Dad’s parents are from Westport in Mayo and Limerick. So, all four of my grandparents are Irish," said the Watford defender, who has played the last three Championship games for Gianfranco Zola’s side.

"Two years ago I came into the under 17 squad for the first time as the new boy in the camp. Now, I’m realising a dream by captaining Ireland."

Skippering his side to next July’s UEFA finals in Lithuania is his ultimate aim, something only possible to embark on by claiming one of the top two places in the four-nation group.

Delightful stuff; Irish through and through. Haven't seen him play yet but he sounds a tremendous prospect at such a young age. And, his development could compensate more than adequately for the loss of Michael Keane and mooted defection of Sean McGinty (whose development has stalled anyways).

Commentators just mentioned him, saying he's done well so far. Zola apparently annoyed he played 90 minutes for the 19s on Tuesday.

Just back from an achilles injury so Zola's annoyance is understandable. His last club start was 1st Jan before the U19 game.

Yeah that'd get his goat alright. Palace fought back from 2-0 down to get a draw through old man Phillips. No mention of Hoban being responsible for either, so that's good.

Looked at home at CB. Might have possibly given away a penalty at one stage and took out Zaha once when he got away from the defence. However, he kept Zaha honest for most of the game which is a compliment to him. Reminds me a bit of Dunne, not super quick, but seems to read the game well. For a 19 year old, he can only get better! Would love to read others' opinions of him.

He was certainly impressive considering he is only back from an achilles injury. That was never a penalty he just stood up strong shoulder to shoulder with Zaha. Showed his strength. To be honest, last night was was first time seeing him so can't comment much on his speed, but I wouldn't have thought he was caught for pace on last night's performance. In comparison to Dunne, I thought Hoban was very light on his feet last night and was quick to turn and get back and tackle Zaha on a couple of occasions. He certainly looked more nimble and agile than Dunne.

Anyways, I said I'd get the people who have watched him week in and week out involved in judging Hoban. No point just purely speculating on one performance. Hopefully, we can get a better idea of the player he is through this:

Hopefully, this will help satisfy your appetite for opinions of him . . . .

Hoban is on the bench away to Man City this afternoon, having been sidelined for a year with injury.

Hoban came off the bench at half-time for Watford today. Hopefully he hasn't lost a step after so long out with injury. He was linked with all the big English teams not that long ago.
