    Mervue

Draw a fair result in match of very few chances in Galway tonight. Wexford were in fact the less creative of the two sides and cannot complain about the dropped two points. With Joey suspended and Danny unavailable, Wexford started with Graham, Brian, CJ, Jamie, Corkey, Deano, Crokey, Glenn, Rocks, Shane and Tom up front. The game started with lots of endeavour on both sides but little quality in either final third and more or less continued in the same vein from then on. After 15, the Mervue ten got a yellow for a tackle. With 18 gone, Deano hit a free on target from thirty out but Hanley in the Mervue goal was able to save comfortably. Mervue managed a good move midway through the half but the shot was dragged wide from about 25 yards out. After 25, Glenn picked up a yellow for a tackle. Best chance of the half fell to Mervue on the half-hour when the ball broke to an attacker from a Mervue corner but his shot was blocked on the line by a Youths defender and Wexford were able to clear it away. A couple of long-range efforts by Mervue finished the half and 0-0 at half-time after a poor enough half.

Wexford started with a slightly higher tempo in the second half and their defence improved with the result that decent chances became even rarer in the second period. After 8 minutes, Nkololo got a yellow for a tackle and little occurred until 25 minutes when Rocks got a yellow for another tackle. Biansumba then came on for Keogh for Mervue and Patsy, who surely could have come on earlier, replaced Crokey in midfield. Graham then pushed a long-range shot by Mervue round the post for a corner and Caolan came on for Deano. Mervue's 9 then got a yellow for a pull-back on Shane. With ten to go, Wexford had the ball in the net following a free-kick but it was ruled out for offside. With four to go, Mervue created another decent chance when a long cross from the right was put back into the danger-zone but the onrushing Mervue forward was only able to steer it a yard wide. Graham then pushed an angled shot round the post for a corner and the three minutes of injury-time finished up without incident in a match largely devoid of incident for 0-0 at full-time.

Best for Wexford were probably the defence of Brian or Shane, who both played at right-back, Jamie, CJ and Corkey but going forward, Tom looked very isolated up front and Danny and Joey seemed to be missed badly. Pat Hoban had a good 45 but faded in the second as he was well-marshalled by the Wexford defence. 0-0 at full-time and the roars from the nearby Sportsgrounds almost sounded more interesting on the night.
